Celebrated international fashion photographer Terry Richardson employs a signature snapshot aesthetic in his work for Gucci, Levis, Jimmy Choo, and Tom Ford, editorial for Vogue, Harpers Bizarre and GQ as well as the candid portraits taken in his New York City studio. The implementation of low-tech mediums like point and shoot cameras proves that it doesn’t matter what vehicle an artists uses, rather how that artist transcends the limitations of their medium and makes it their own. Since 2001, Richardson has been accused by multiple models of sexual misconduct. He has not actively worked as a photographer since 2018. contemporary photographer terry richardson presents ‘terrywood’, a visualization of the images which comprise his hometown of hollywood, at ohwow gallery. the installation includes twenty-five new photos investigating issues of celebrity in addition to the kitsch and character which symbolize the more gritty reality of the los angeles aesthetic. the photographer’s reinterpretation of this (in)famous city is a celebration and illustration of a place which seems to be both very familiar and also raw to him– as if these locals and characters had been just discovered rather than ones in which he had been raised with. This volume compiles all of the photographs from Terry Richardson's wildly successful 2012 show Terrywood, held at the OHWOW gallery in Los Angeles. Terrywood is the photographer's vision of everything that Hollywood has meant and continues to mean in the public imagination: grand-scale glitz, big-budget glamour--and of course the awards ceremonies, in homage to which Richardson produced a series of ten award statuettes for the show, fashioned in his own bespectacled likeness. These works and all of the photographs included in the exhibition are reproduced here, alongside documentation of the year-long process of planning the exhibition, and coverage of the opening night, which was attended by celebrities such as Tom Ford, James Franco, Odd Future, Sasha Grey, Paris Hilton, Paz de la Huerta, Jared Leto, Lindsay Lohan and Frank Ocean, and which has already become legendary as one of the glitziest opening nights in recent memory. Terrywood also includes texts by Jeffrey Deitch and Al Moran. On Feb. 25, Ace Gallery (5514 Wilshire Blvd.) presented new work by iconic L.A. painter Ed Moses, including the acrylic-on-canvas Egg Yolk 3, 2011 (seen here). “His current use of textures, fabrics and color is pure joy,” says actor and collector Julian Sands. Adds Anjelica Huston: " Ed's paintings are passionate and musical, playful and obsessed … like the main himself." Exhibit runs until May. Also on view: works by painter Mary Corse and sculptor Carl Andre. (Image courtesy of Ace Gallery.)
