The reason that I found the last few books excruciating was the completely soppy and cringe worthy love stories. Danger loomes when Xander is torn from Isleen and it’s up to him, his brilliant mind, and their attraction to one another to save her before it’s too late. The book is brief, but it does has a story and plot, and it doesn’t fall into some of the tedious, slow-paced writing traps the other books in the series are prone to.

I figured I’d dip my toes in this short story to decide, and while Ridley still certainly isn’t likable, the trouble she gets herself into is intriguing.But you know me, I can’t resist a novella, so I figured this would be a good chance to see if I’m interested in the rest of the series. Ethan’s dad has a new girlfriend and to my disappointment it doesn’t seem like Macon and Marian have hooked up yet. Darkly intense and beautiful, this story is one that grips you from start to finish with your heart in your throat wondering what will happen next.

And I love the paranormal aspects too, Xander’s hearing, the deep connection between the main characters, healing through touch, I could go on and on but I won’t so you can read for yourself.
