Description

The ES-5 is a powerful and versatile effects switching system that gives you complete control over a pedalboard. To start, you connect your pedals to the ES-5’s audio loops, and then activate the loops as needed to achieve various pedal combinations. The on/off state of each loop and many other parameters can be saved in a patch, allowing you to instantly change sounds without dancing around to press the switches on individual pedals. Your guitar tone is also maintained, because it only travels through an effect when it’s needed for a particular sound. Other loop switchers for pedals can accomplish the same thing. However, the ES-5 goes way beyond this core functionality, providing powerful routing flexibility, real-time control options, MIDI, and more in a space-saving unit. This gives you a great improvement for controlling effects that directly bring your creative ideas to life. Flex Your Routability with the ES-5 The ES-8 Effects Switching System begins life with a sharp and clear mission: to provide pro and high-end users with cool and creative solutions. The new and innovative ES-8 is a system that represents a major leap “out of the box” from the standard individual stomp box utility. It is a whole new way of providing unprecedented capability without sacrificing sound quality. The ES-8 combines far-reaching flexibility with total freedom of expression. All this, in one cool device. The ES-8 is a powerful and versatile effects switching system that gives you complete control over a pedalboard full of stomps. Going far beyond typical pedal-switching devices, the ES-8 harnesses BOSS’ decades of effects knowledge to fully maximize your sound-making capabilities using all types of effects, from vintage pedals to modern MIDI-controlled devices. The inclusion of the “Separate Loop” function can be found in many switching devices, however, in the ES-8, we have deliberately eliminated the need for this extraneous connection because it provides no extra benefit to the unique and comprehensive ES-8 design. In fact, the ES-8 was conceived with total integrated functionality in mind without the need for a detached independent output function. Here are four typical uses of the “Separate Loop” which are already accomplished with the ES-8 internal design: Extra Regular Effect Loop: The loops are controlled by an analog switch array that provides fast, flexible, and transparent switching. When a loop is not active, your guitar completely bypasses it for clear and pure signal transfer. Separate input and output buffers are available, and these can be switched on/off individually as needed.

The ES-8 effect switching system is more than just a smartly designed tool for the creation of awesome sounds. It is also a handsome piece of hardware that is going to look really good on your pedalboard. Built with durable mechanical functions in a road-tough design, the ES-8 combines huge technical innovations with small useful conveniences. Memory capability with 800 patches, a large display with extensive naming capacity, and robust responsive foot switches with full assignability are just a few of the features that make this switcher the choice of the pros. Modes Memory mode/Manual mode Loops 8 (Effect loop) If you have more than eight pedals, you can still use a switcher like the ES-8. Figure out which pedals you always have active at the same time and group them together. Then you can plug them into one input on the ES-8.ES-8 Effects Switching System har en ren og klar mission: at levere cool og kreative løsninger til pro og high-end brugere. The ES-8 Effects Switching System begins life with a sharp and clear mission: to provide pro and high-end users with cool and creative solutions. It is a whole new way of providing unprecedented capability without sacrificing sound quality. The ES-8 combines far-reaching flexibility with total freedom of expression. All this, in one cool device. First, they allow you to use effects in a parallel fashion, blending them together instead of feeding one into the other. (Up to two parallel loops can be created using the onboard mixers.) This function lets you create mixed tones, such as clean blended with distortion. Secondly, the mixers allow for effects carryover when changing patches, which is particularly useful when working with delay and reverb effects. More than one effect can be connected in each single parallel chain. Once I had everything plugged in (properly), it works better than I could have ever dreamed. It is very easy to use, even for a meathead like myself.

Alex uses a variety of BOSS pedals and controls them via BOSS ES-8 Effects Switching System. Here are five typical uses of the “Separate Loop” which are already accomplished with the ES-8 internal design: NOTICE~With Regard To Separate Loop:Another use of parallel processing is to mix reverb with distortion, maintaining both the clean resonance of the reverb’s decay and the coarse edge of the distortion. (figure 4) In addition to its eight audio loops for effects, the ES-8 includes a volume loop. Like its name suggests, the ES-8’s volume loop works great for inserting a volume pedal. This can be thought of as an “insert” patch point between the audio loops. However, unlike the fixed insert loops found on other switchers, the position of the ES-8’s volume loop in the effects chain can change, because the normal effects loops can be moved around at will. In this way it allows you to maximize the capability of your amp. The new Boss ES-8 Effects Switching System promises to become a staple on any large scale pedal board. Designed to open up sonic possibilities, the ES-8 represents a huge leap from the standard individual stomp box utility, and is a more affordable alternative to the sought-after Gig Rig switcher, but still suitable for professional users - after all, in Boss you can trust! The ES-8 features a Pro-Level Design for Gig Durability. Here are four typical uses of the “Separate Loop” which are already accomplished with the ES-8 internal design: NOTICE~With Regard To Separate Loop: The BOSS ES-8 is a revolutionary effects switching system that provides you with a host of often-requested features and functions. You have access to eight loops, allowing you to craft elaborate effects chains with unprecedented routing flexibility. The ES-8's onboard memory allows you to store 800 patches, along with external control parameters such as delay time for each patch. And best of all, the ES-8 utilizes an analog circuit to keep your tone clean and pure. If that wasn't enough, you also get switchable buffers, LCD and 7-segment LED displays, and completely customizable pedal function assignments! It goes without saying: the BOSS ES-8 effects switching system is going to become very popular here at Sweetwater!

With these different modes you can control your pedalboard however you need it. In manual mode, turn off each of the eightloops as you want meaning that even if you don't have your pedals accessible on your board you can still control each of your eightloops on the fly. In preset mode you can instead switch between eightdifferent programmed presets for each bank. There are enough presets for a long gigs-worth of sounds, but when you want to work out finer details, the manual mode gives you extra control. Dean Rowbotham, owner of Bedford Guitars and professional guitar tour technician has been building rigs for years and after setting up shop has found the ES-8 to be a real key in building high quality touring rigs for his clients. Dean explains all the great features that ES-8 makes it’s it an invaluable piecYour stompboxes can be connected to any of the 8 audio loops provided by the ES-8. The loops can be activated as needed to achieve various pedal combinations. The on/off state can be saved to a patch and then activated by the footcontroller of the BOSS ES8 itself. Guitar tone is preserved as the guitar signal is only routed through the effects chosen as needed . The last band I was in wound up before I got my ES-5 (ironically, since it was a couple of that band's songs that made me want a switcher), so I haven't really had the chance to use my current pedalboard in anger, but I suspect that it's going to be far more useful for gigging with a fixed(ish) setlist than it is for more free-form rehearsal type stuff where you're jamming, working out parts and writing/arranging songs. My worry is that for that part of the process a switcher-based board potentially goes from being a useful tool to becoming a barrierto creativity. If any of your pedals use MIDI, make the most of it and use the ES-8 to control those pedals. If you’ve never used MIDI before, it might seem confusing at first, but it’s a great way to have more control over your settings.
