Nana had more money than she knew what to do with after writing that book, not that you’d know it to look at her. She has always been a generous woman when it comes to charity and strangers, but not with herself or her family. She believes that having too much makes people want too little, and has always hesitated when asked for handouts. But that might be about to change. Many years ago, long before I was born, a palm reader at a fair in Land’s End told my nana that she wouldn’t live beyond the age of eighty. She’s never forgotten it. Even her agent knows not to expect any more books. So tomorrow isn’t just Halloween, or Nana’s eightieth birthday. She thinks it’s her last, and they think they might finally get their hands on her money. My family haven’t all been in the same place at the same time for over a decade, not even for my sister’s wedding, but when Nana invited them to Seaglass one last time, they all agreed to come. Clever, compelling, confounding and absolutely delicious.' – Lisa Jewell, bestselling author of None of This is True The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. Then at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows… Such a brilliant tribute to Christie’s “And Then There Were None” meets 1985’s classic mystery movie “ Clue” ( six guests’ invitation to a mansion theme) !

Clever, sinister, claustrophobic, beguiling and utterly compelling. I was totally hooked from the first sentence.” I don't get it. So many readers loved this, but Daisy Darker has got to be one of the most boring thrillers I've ever read. Secrets were such an integral part of this story. What were the secrets that most impacted the Darker family? Oof! Where to start?! There was the huge secret that Daisy’s sisters killed her, but also other secrets–that Trixie was aware of all that was happening, what happened before Daisy died, that Nana was aware of all the misdoings…and so much more. Daisy Darker’s family wasted far too many years lying, they spent their final hours together learning lessons before DYING…” Sister relationships! How can you compare/contrast your own sisterly relationships to those of Daisy and her sisters? There has definitely been more than one time I’ve been vexed with my sister, but as of yet, we’ve never resorted to murder and/or cliff-tossing. Sister relationships, like any family relationships, can be very multi-leveled and complicated, but can also be extremely close. The Darker family are a miserable, selfish bunch, who only care about themselves and how much money they have. To say Nana is eccentric would be an understatement. And the rest of the family? Let‘s just say they put the fun in dysFUNctional, if you love dysfunctional families as much as I do. Their dialogue is often hilarious and they do not hesitate to go after each other with their claws out. There was something magical about an island—the mere word suggested fantasy. You lost touch with the world—an island was a world of its own. A world, perhaps, from which you might never return.” What a wonderful way to be introduced to Alice Feeney! I have not had the pleasure of reading one of her books before and she completely wowed me!!!!

The New York Times New Psychological Thrillers - The New York Times

It’s time for Daisy Darker’s family to gather for Nana’s 80th birthday party on a remote island. At midnight, Nana is dead. Then, another family member follows. What secrets is this family keeping? And who is the killer? This is my favorite book of 2022 so far and something superbly jaw-dropping would have to come along to change that, I think. This is next level.Alice Feeney FILLS her books with tiny details and I’m sure I won’t get them all, so PLEASE add your thoughts in comments. If I add them to the post I will credit you! Daisy recalls a big storm in 1987. Frank’s car had been hit by a falling tree and he was badly injured. Conor’s dad told the children about a man killed with a poisoned umbrella. Daisy recalls that Conor’s father had a relationship with Nancy but they broke up and Conor left home. But Conor said that Daisy would have died soon anyway, because of her heart condition. He suggested they cover up their involvement by throwing Daisy over the cliff. Rose and Lily agree that this is the only choice. They fling her off the edge of the cliff into the sea. It's Nana’s eightieth birthday- and her entire family has gathered to help her celebrate. This would include her son, ex-daughter-in-law, her granddaughters, and her great granddaughter, as well as Connor, a man she practically helped raise, and who all her granddaughters had a crush on at some point. At the beginning, when the family goes around the table and tells how they’d murders someone, Daisy says “throw them off a cliff.” And weirdly, everyone else predicts their own manner of death. Clues I missed to the identity of the killer Daisy told Trixie her secret and Trixie told Nana, who was horrified. Conor’s father had committed suicide after Daisy’s body was found because when he found blood on his car (he car Conor borrowed) he thought he had been the one who had killed somebody. Synopsis: After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island.
