Description

Watching Wonder Woman 1984, the whipping of Diana’s Lasso of Truth followed its movement with precision. Then, as bullets ricochet off Wonder Woman’s armor as she attempts to stop Maxwell Lord in the White House, it actually sounds as though the shells fell to the floor around my own feet.

A quantum dot display is built for color fidelity, made possible through a field of hyper-sensitive and ultra-reactive nanocrystals, saturating the entire image deeply. The mini-LEDs enable a higher fidelity of illumination, so that bright parts of the image can be clearly defined without the light source bleeding into neighboring pixels. We weren't expecting the difference to be as profound as it ended up being. Most small-sized TVs that pass by our test rooms are, it’s fair to say, not the most aesthetically pleasing. You could not lay that criticism at the feet (or stand) of the QE43QN90A.Underpinning the Samsung QN90A is the Tizen smart platform that Samsung has been using for, well, what feels like forever. New this year is the ability to change which smart assistant the TV uses and your options include Alexa, Google Assistant and Bixby. We still don’t think Bixby is on par with the other two, but now that’s less of an issue given the fact that it’s easy to switch to one of the others instead. The same is true of Pan, where the QN90A handles the film’s deliberately exaggerated pictures with no evidence of clipping. This shows HDR10 content is being accurately tone-mapped, thus retaining the original creative intent. The Samsung QN90A also decodes HDR10+ content such as Alita: Battle Angel correctly, retaining all the detail in the shadows and bright highlights. Just when Samsung found its stride with QLED, keeping up the capabilities of its OLED competitors, it innovated the heart of its product with an all-new panel —a panel that actually showcased improvements in our testing. It also reminded QLED alternatives it’s still the company to beat. Unlike Samsung’s higher-end Neo QLED models, the QN90A doesn’t come with a One Connect box, a handy accessory that functions as a connection hub for all your cabling. Instead, all the connection ports can be found at the rear of the TV, to the right as you face the screen. These all face sideways and are located 23cm from the edge of the panel. Quantum Mini LED, Quantum HDR 1500, Quantum Matrix Technology, Wide Viewing Angle, Ultimate UHD Dimming

There are also two USB 2.0 ports, twin tuners for terrestrial and satellite broadcasts, a Common Interface slot, an optical digital output and an Ethernet port. In terms of wireless connections, there’s Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2 and support for Apple AirPlay 2. And yet, it’s largely a delight to watch. With most content it’s brighter, punchier and more vibrant than its rivals, and without veering into obvious exaggeration. It’s fun, exciting and yet controlled in its delivery, and its motion-handling is really good, too. On top of that, it’s got superb gaming specs that are second only to those of the LG C2, and even then only by a tiny amount.Gamers will be glad to know the Samsung QN90A has one of the best lag times you’ll find. Our review unit measured lag time of 12.6 milliseconds with its auto low latency mode —a huge improvement over the Q80T’s 30.1 milliseconds. Usually we recommend sets with sets with a lag time below 20 milliseconds for the best gaming TVs, and the addition of gaming-focused features make the QN90A Neo QLED an excellent choice for gamers. Samsung QN90A Neo QLED TV review: Audio

Assembly is simple and the overall quality of construction speaks to Samsung’s high standards. 43-inch TVs aren’t often as well built as this one is. Interface From a sheer aesthetic standpoint, there’s nothing to dislike about the Samsung QN90A. It has a beautiful look with premium materials and looks great both wall mounted and on its stand. In terms of design, however, the stand is a bit dicey. If someone comes across a different type of panel or if their Samsung QN90Adoesn't correspond to the review, let us know and we'll update the review. Note that some tests, like gray uniformity, may vary between units. With a 20W system at its disposal there’s little in the way of sonic fireworks. Dialogue is clear and crisp, but bass is limited; the dynamic range sees more fizzle than sizzle, and pushing the volume up doesn’t add much scale. For daytime TV it’s perfectly cromulent, though for gaming (or anything else that requires oomph), a pair of Bluetooth headphones or a compact soundbar would be better. Thankfully, Samsung does let you tweak the sound through an EQ if you leave it on the Standard sound mode, however that option will be disabled if you have AI Sound turned on. If you don’t want to use AI and you don’t want to fiddle with the EQ, you can use the Amplify setting to get an uplift in mids at low volumes, which does help alleviate some problems.

The Samsung QN90A is an excellent entry point into Samsung’s Neo QLED range, delivering fantastic HDR images and impactful gaming features

To test the Samsung QN90A we used Portrait Displays’ Calman colour calibration software. Samsung QN90A Neo QLED review: Gaming The Samsung QE-QN90A has an HDMI 2.1 input, 2 USB ports, 2 HDMI 2.0 inputs as well as an eARC output and an optical audio output . The device can easily be connected to a variety of media, such as a DVD player or game console . Powered by a powerful processor , delivering a 4K UHD quality viewing experience, this smart TV also delivers immersive sound thanks to 40 watts of power from its speakers. The sound system is also compatible with Dolby Digital Plus and features OTS Lite, which allows the sound to move with the movement of objects on the screen. Advanced Functions and Important Price Watching the "All-New Halloween Spooktacular” episode of WandaVision on Disney Plus, the set could show off how it handles motion and high-contrast scenes. As Wanda extends the reach of her Hex, the S.W.O.R.D. camp is turned into a traveling circus. Even as the agents try to escape the growing boundary, you can see their uniforms and equipment transform seamlessly (and hilariously) into clown garb and colorful tents. Except when a curious Vision reaches the Hex’s boundary, glowing in dark fields, there seems to be a bit of blooming, as well as occasional vignetting in the corners. Samsung's Tizen smart TV software looks more or less the same this year, and I’d say that’s a good thing. The software is reliable, offering a broad selection of apps. From the Loki TV series on Disney Plus to any of the best HBO Max shows and movies, you’ll find most of the apps and content you enjoy. Tizen even has a special Apple TV app for enjoying iTunes movies and shows, as well as Apple's original Apple TV Plus shows and Apple Fitness Plus– no separate Apple TV 4K (2021) box needed.

Compatible with Apple TV+, Google Play Movies & TV, Hulu, Netflix, Prime Video, SHOWTIME, Sling TV, YouTube, and many more. Putting the poor sound to one side – after all, you should really budget for a dedicated sound system with any TV – the 43-inch QN90B is a really good television faced with a new wave of intense competition. Said competition (the new 42-inch OLEDs offered by Sony and LG) means that this Samsung QLED’s weaknesses and strengths are equally brought into stark contrast. The Samsung QN90A is one of the most affordable entries in Samsung’s 2021 Neo QLED lineup and the first TV we’ve reviewed to incorporate Mini LED technology. It’s essentially a miniaturised version of the QE65QN94A, so it adheres to same design template Samsung has been pumping out these past few years with its premium sets. The bezel neatly trims the TV’s corners without impinging on the screen, the stand is tough and sturdy, while the uniform depth of the screen (26.9mm) allows it to sit flush against a wall.

Advanced Functions and Important Price

The QN90A looks amazing even with the lights on. When I was watching Formula 1 races and soccer matches, the color of the cars and the green of the field were gorgeous. Even dark shows like The Mandolorian looked great. Turn off the lights and it’s one of the most vivid viewing experiences you’ll find. But the benefit is fantastically bright images, allied with a wide colour range and super levels of detail and sharpness. The costumes in The Last Duel are revealed to their finest details, from the rivets in armour to jewel-encrusted tunics and threads of fur coats; nothing seems to escape the QN90A’s gaze. Close-ups of faces hold up impressively well in any film I watch, so – if it wasn’t already obvious in lieu of its size – this is a TV you’ll want to get up close to.
