Because hands come in so many sizes and preferences vary so widely, I can see the Supra being an attractive option to a wider audience. Perhaps a couple sharing the pen? A growing child? Someone who likes both very long and very short pens? I can’t think of many situations where it would be necessary. Rather, the Supra is an impressive looking pen that can transform into several different pens. There isn’t a weight benefit of using the Supra in shorter mode. Because the short Supra is a mini-pen, it needs to be posted, and the short Supra posted weighs about the same as the extended Supra unposted — about 40 grams. Posting the cap brings the weight of the extended Supra to about 50 grams. The extended Supra is nicely balanced and comfortable, so I just used it that way. I even carried the Supra around extended, albeit in a pen case. The finishing and construction overall feels great, a precision product. All the sections fit together well, seamless joins are really seamless, weight and balance are good (if you like metal pens). I am not sure if anyone has had one of these pens long enough to know one way or the other, or if someone with experience with annealed metal can tell us, but I, too, am curious about this. After all, if it does fade, the price premium for this finish is hardly worth it..... Why? The weight of the Supra comes from the brass material of the entire pen, so the Supra’s weight is distributed evenly. For me, that made the heavier Supra more comfortable than some resin pens that weigh less but have most of the weight concentrated in either a brass piston at the top or a metal section. Better balance is better.

But the unposted pen feels much nicer. Unposted, the Supra weighs 42g (1.48 ounces) so it still feels hefty, but the length is cut down to around 12.5cm (5.25 inches).

Sharp is a good word to use, actually, because there are a few edges to catch the finger. With the extension tube inserted, there’s a step midway down the barrel, and the step up from the section is a bit edgy too.

This is the interesting part of the story... blue coloring by annealing is well known to all the watch aficionados out there. Parts of the movement or the hands of the watch are blued by heating. Different temperatures resulting in different colors of the workpiece. And exactly this is how it works with the Liliput: In the process of annealing heat is applied for each Fireblue piece individually by manual labor. In color matching caps, bodies and sections are put together afterwards so every single Liliput Fireblue is one of a kind. When the metal extension is removed, the brass Supra shrinks to a length closer to the two small Kaweco Liliputs, though wider. That extra diameter adds some writing comfort. Capped, the Supra is a tiny, chunky little thing, in the mould of Kaweco’s Liliput, but a much more usable diameter. It’s close enough to the Schon P6 to be a true size rival, and meaningfully smaller than the Sport. This Fireblue pen is constructed from tempered steel and features a spectacular finish. Each pen is hand-torched, giving it a unique pattern of enchanting colors ranging from light brown to purple to blue. Due to this color variation, the pen you receive will have its own unique look which may differ in color from the pens pictured. My Stainless Steel Liliput came with a medium nib and the Fireblue with an extra-fine, both of which were good writers. Liliput nib units are the same as those on the AL-Sport, AC-Sport and Dia2 line, and can be easily unscrewed and interchanged with the nib units of any of those pens. Not with the larger Supra, of course. Because the shorter Supra is a mini-fountain pen, it’s designed to be used posted. So here is the shorter Supra posted, next to the Liliputs. That brass object at the bottom is the Supra’s extension tube. Finally, the pen can be used without the middle section, unposted. This gives a pen that is just 9.5 cm (3.75 inches) long and weighs 31 g (1.1 ounces). This was by far my least favorite setup.

Kaweco Liliput Fireblue Fountain Pen — Pens Plus (of Oxford)

Length of extended Supra capped and closed: about 13 cm or 5 1⁄ 8 inches. Length of extended Supra posted, excluding nib: about 14 cm or 5 1⁄ 2 inches. Length of shorter Supra (without extension piece) capped and closed: about 9.7 cm or just over 3 3⁄ 4 inches. From here, the pen can be posted without the middle section, making it 13.5cm (5.25 inches). Just slightly longer than the pen with the middle section, unposted. This was my favorite setup – the pen weighs 39 g, so most of the weight remains, but the length is great for my hand. In this respect it’s like the Schon, but unlike the Schon the Supra is actually a convertable, extendable pen, too. Unlike the other pens in the Liliput range, the Liliput Fireblue pen's barrel and cap are made of blued stainless steel. This process of blueing is done by hand and through the action of different temperatures, the individual pen receives a varied colouring of shimmering bluish and brownish colour nuances. Resulting in an entirely unique pen that can be further changed over time through use. Making for a pen that is entirely unique. The blued steel barrel and cap is further complimented through the use of a gold Kaweco logo and detailing on the top of the pens screw-on cap. There is hope, yay! What Inks to Avoid? To Clean or Not to Clean? The TenRules. In this form it’s definitely longer than the Sport when capped, but much more usable, without the faff of posting the cap to write.

Fireblu2 is the better fireblu texture. - Doom General

But anyone who has heard of Kaweco’s ‘fireblue’ range before will immediately recognise this pen. Legend has it that the Kaweco CEO personally blowtorches the steel body of these pens to bring out the subtle blues and greys — and occasional oranges — of the fireblue finish. On the flip-side, of course, I'm sure that people who are happy with coding are going to do some truly amazing things with zscript. Posting the full Supra pen makes it the same length as a Pilot Parallel pen – a bit over 15cm (6.5 inches). While the pen still felt balanced at this point, it felt incredible awkward. Both these steel Liliputs have a nice heft, weighing a few grams more than the Kaweco AL-Sport. That’s a comfortable weight for me for writing, but makes for a solid-feeling pen that seems able to withstand the slings and arrows of carry-around use. The Supra has a screw-in metal extension to make the pen longer, which can be removed if you want a shorter pen. In the above photo, the Supra is full-size with the extension between the section and the rest of the pen body. Holding the pen with no middle section and unposted made my hand feel cramped and awkward. Not something I would ever enjoy using.
