Sea of Thieves has been one of my most-played games of the past few years, and my favorite aspects of the game have always been the lore and world, so I was excited to read this and learn more about a few characters I was already in love with from the game, Ramsey and Larinna. I think having the story alternate between their perspectives was really clever, especially since the stories weren't exactly linear. Ramsey's story is the highlight -- while avoiding spoilers, I'll just note that he becomes important and his story ties in to the comic book series as well. The only good additional lore between the comics and Athena's Fortune is the look at how people journey to the Sea of Thieves and what those first few moments once they arrive are like. We get more of that here, as Ramsey actually starts in the world outside the Sea of Thieves, makes his journey over, and witnesses the birth of the Pirate Lord, Gold Hoarder, and the Sea of Thieves as we know it today. Game mechanics are explained in-universe, and my understanding of the world is a bit richer for having read it. However, I'd wager the story is so insubstantial and poorly told in Sea of Thieves that most players don't know or care who the Pirate Lord and Gold Hoarder are in the game. So your enjoyment will depend on if you've somehow convinced yourself to care about the story.

The good news is that Athena's Fortune at least fits with what established story there is in the game reasonably well. Alternating chapters between the perspectives of Ramsey and Larinna, characters players could potentially be familiar with, we get to learn the tale of Ramsey's founding of Athena's Fortune and the early history of the Sea of Thieves. We also get Larinna's perspective as a new denizen of the Sea of Thieves with an arc more reminiscent of what players experience. The Art of Sea of Thieves book clearly would be canonical if it discusses any information pertinent to the game’s lore at all, since it comes directly from Rare themselves, but does any such information exist in the book, or is it all only real-world behind-the-scenes and developmental information? The name of Graymarrow and Briggsy's ships were The Twisted Horn and The Homeward Dove respectively. Ramsey says that he would send a gift to Rowenna for her tavern, which is later revealed in the comic series to be a cursed pistol that would prevent the igniting of gunpowder around itself.

Comics are really good, they're from DeMarco and Lesedi's perspectives, and shows how and why they rival eachother so much, trying to make their father proud by being the first to find the treasure that he hid for his 2 children. There is very little to recommend about Sea of Thieves: Athena's Fortune. The plot was never the strong suit of Sea of Thieves, and instead of usefully expanding the world in exciting directions, it almost serves as a novelization of the poorly-told tale of the game. This journal is located on your journey’s first destination: the Uncharted Island at N13. If you are completing the Tall Tale, you must go to this island to find the Magpie’s Wing Ship’s Log anyway. Two birds, one cannonball! The Athena's Fortune was named after Ramsey's wife who he left behind to pursue a life on the seas. See its precise location on your interactive SoT companion map: Shroudbreaker Journal #4 on Thieves’ Haven. The Location for Shroudbreaker Journal #5: The Old Mother is said to be bigger than any outpost. A galleon could easily sail through her ribs. Athena's Fortune is what the games Tall Tales are based off of, as in the book, you find characters such as The Pirate Lord, Briggsy, Graymarrow, and The Gold Hoarder. It takes place before The Pirate lord was dead, and before the 3 were skeleton lords, eventually leading into why they became skeleton lords. I enjoyed this book so much due to the amazing writing and fantastic storytelling. My favorite characters are definitely Edmond and Flameheart but I also enjoy Ellie Slate and Harry Harkly's rivalry

Outside Ramsey and Larinna (and the Pirate Lord and the Gold Hoarder), no character is even in the slightest bit remarkable. Our two heroes don't do much to endear themselves to the reader either. You just sort of root for them because they're the characters in the game. Nothing especially exciting happens either if you've played the game (you'll have seen and experienced more excitement yourself in your first couple sessions). Briggsy does not use her real name; hers is a title given by her profound ability to break into, or out of, anything or anywhere. There is an overgrown hut near the water on the inside lower level of the island. This journal lies in a crate in this hut. The Captain's Logbook records a number of statistics for the ship and Captain's entire history, as well as the ship's current play session. Hey, I just recently started playing the game for the anniversary update, and I’m loving it so far! I tend to be the kind of geek who obsesses over the continuity and lore of the fictional things I’m a fan of, so I was wondering a few things about the “Expanded Universe” of Sea of Thieves:The art book is just concept art. A LOT of it. Still worth buying though, as it has some pretty interesting stuff in it.

It is implied that the Magpie's Wing marked the basis for the standard Galleons used in the Sea of Thieves in the present day.The easiest way to find this journal is likely to go to the top of the North spire. Staying on that North spire, make your spiraling way downward into the caves. You only need to go down one level. What do you mean North spire? Perhaps seeing the marker on the map might help: Shroudbreaker Journal #2 on Ancient Spire. The Location for Shroudbreaker Journal #3: In the present day, Larinna, an ambitious stowaway determined to leave her mark on history, joins forces with a wild and adventurous captain seeking the greatest treasure ever buried. Yes, Devil’s Ridge is an awfully large island. Perhaps this will help you pinpoint the location: Shroudbreaker Journal #3 on Devil’s Ridge. The Location for Shroudbreaker Journal #4: What rowboat?
