Description

The documentary was first broadcast on PBS in the US in 1988, before it was aired in the UK. Of its influence on ‘Step On’, Ryder told Uncut: “Where did ‘twisting my melon’ come from? A Steve McQueen documentary I saw. Apparently, he used to walk into his director’s office and argue. And there was this guy doing an impression of him saying, ‘Oh man, he’s twisting my melon’. So I thought, ‘Oh, I’ll just have that.’ It’s a great phrase, innit?” And did Yi Chan recognise Eun Gyeol? I kinda understand that they left this for the audiences' interpretation and why.. but I would have liked an answer to it. a b c Awbi, Anita (27 October 2011). Twisting My Melon: The Autobiography is named after a catchphrase Ryder exclaimed during the opening moments of " Step On". [6] The phrase itself stemming from Steve McQueen. [7] The book details his early upbringing in Salford, dropping out of education to become a postman and discovering drugs in the process. [4] [8] He discussed forming Happy Mondays in 1980, their period on Factory Records and success with their third studio album Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches (1990). [8] Ryder admitted that this period was a "bit of a blur. I can actually remember the Sixties better than the Eighties," attributing this to having a thyroid condition. [4] He referred to himself during this time as a caricature, akin to Alice Cooper. [5] Ryder's charm has always lain in the disjunction between his two personae – scumbag and seer. But even after rehab and therapy, he doesn't really do rueful. He does feel bad about a few things – crying at Wilson's hospital bedside, not being around when his eldest children were little. Towards the end of the book, he describes the lost years of emotional deep freeze from which he is still emerging. Sometimes, though, Twisting My Melon seems to pass in an almost banal litany of pharmacologically inspired misdemeanours, recounted matter-of-factly, without particular glee or regret.

They should have never shown that scene where her father said this if they weren't going to answer this. It wouldn't be the only time "lemon" has become "melon" in the music world. There was a group called Blind Melon which debuted in 1992, and we can presume that their name is a tribute to blues legend Blind Lemon Jefferson. This song captivates me still, after 50+ years. Takes me to the deep South and the poverty of some who lived thru truly hard times. And the powerful spirit of a poor young girl being abandoned to her future with only a red dress and her wits to keep her alive.

The comedic timings in this drama were perfect. After all Choi Hyun Wwook is there in this drama. I loved Ha Yi Chan blurting out random english words in the middle of the sentences. lol Younger Ha Yi Chan acted by Choi Hyun Wook was again a bonus because we know he's great at portraying this funky outgoing guy vibe. Chemistry of Ha Yi chan and Cheong Ah was also so mushy and natural that made me root for them all along... Ryeom and Seol in ah also did a convincing job at their roles... haven't seen Ryeom before but he was good at acting all those frustrating scenes when he had to face the mess of his time travel. a b Long, Canilla (18 September 2011). A noteworthy character here is Yi Chan's grandmother acted by Go Doo Shim. Loved her positive presence throughout the show... somehow this show is such a comfort watch thing and quite entertaining if you end up liking the characters. I watched it as it aired so I actually become reluctant towards the end that like "is it really ending tomorrow? I'll miss them" So, not a song about a poor girl, but a song of hope and how you can rise up no matter how far down you started. According to an on-line review of the Happy Mondays' 1990 album "Pills, Thrills, and Bellyaches", it would seem that they made it up. The reviewer refers to the line as "still baffling":
