Jamie Bell came from nowhere and danced his way to box office glory in Brit musical Billy Elliot (2000). His real-life success draws parallels with the story of his on-screen alter ego, a humble northern lad who beats the odds to win a place at the Royal Ballet School. But the film also announced the arrival of director Stephen Daldry. He made his feature debut with this " engrossing, funny," and "very uplifting" tale that went on to bag a few BAFTAs and a clutch of Oscar nominations too.

[26] The show closed just over a month early in Melbourne, on 16 March 2020, due to audience restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [27] Original Broadway production [ edit ] The Real Billy Elliot Diaries traces the story of three boys and how they came to be cast in the stage show. Meanwhile From Screen To Stage focuses on the process of adaptation that began when Elton John first saw the film in Cannes and pitched the idea to Daldry. He compares the dynamic between Billy and his dad with the relationship he had with his own father, admitting that, "I had to be helped sobbing from my seat when it ended!" Daldry is also on hand to explain why the stage version is in many ways more complete than the movie.

The build up to the finale is quite moving and did pull on my heart strings I can't deny. Its all very cliche but it damn well works...damn it!. The whole notion of anyone trying to simply make their father/mother proud by their good actions or dedication to something is a warm path to tread and guaranteed hanky dampener at the movies. Again many will be able to relate to the lovely final curtain sequence as Billy finally shows his family what he has achieved, it does put a lump in your throat and made me wish I could do the same with my own father. In March 2015 Billy Elliot premiered in Estonia, Tallinn, at the Nordea Concert Hall. Among the cast were Kaire Vilgats as Mrs. Wilkinson and Mait Malmsten as Billy's father.Billy Elliot – for første gang som non-replica-versjon". SceneKvelder.
