The result is that Dior Joy is Allure Lite. The rose and jasmine are folded into a sandalwood accord reminiscent of Chanel’s fragrance. From the top notes to the drydown, Joy follows the course of Allure, but in a softer, more transparent interpretation. The mandarin peel dusted with sugar, the rose blended with the lemony jasmine, a touch of apricot and orange blossom that melt into the sandalwood and custard-like vanilla. Even the same contrast between the sweet citrus and creamy woods is maintained. Joy could be so far away from modern idea of what perfume should do that it might be a reach to hope for that. Of course, there are many more perfumes from the house of Jean Patou that are wonderful, and you can even take a look at our article Best In Show Jean Patou Fragrances. Let's not forget 1000 (1972), Sublime (1992), and Patou For Ever, created by Jean Kerleo. But Joy is, or should be, considered an indelible cultural heritage of perfume history and French culture. I have decided to love it for its uniqueness! Because it is unlikely that I will cross the path of another woman wearing it. In my Joy EDP (the bad one, the one nobody wants) I like the aldehydes and the way the metallic adjacent not-rose flowers coat the rose and its vibrations. Pity, I really did seem to like Enjoy, I had used up about 30% of the 100 milliliter bottle in 2 years, which, considering my ever growing collection, is a lot. Joy" was voted "Scent of the Century" by the public at the Fragrance Foundation FiFi Awards in 2000, beating its rival " Chanel No. 5". [7]Incidentally, I was with a friend who couldn't smell it, but said she experienced a powerful fecal note. I am far from blaming those, but hey, why so? Why does Guerlain find a way to sustain old chaps of their line, why do they find ways to play with temporary withdrawals then reissues of the old gems, still insisting on their importance to the world? After the closure of the haute couture business the company has continued to produce fragrances under the Jean Patou brand. Patou also produced fragrances for Lacoste, when Patou acquired the license in the 1960s, [6] and Yohji Yamamoto in the 1990s. [7] From 1967 to 1999 Jean Kerléo was the house perfumer, he developed all their perfumes during that time including "1000" (1972) and "Sublime" (1992), "Patou Pour Homme" (1980). [8]

Moreover it instantly gives you a feeling of an engineered perfume, worked out, with a concept, a strong concept. ok that's the first time i ever try any Jean Patou fragrance, i can sense a strength of harsh character in the over all concept though, i can feel it, it is present even if in this intended to be mild scent, An ounce of Joy had a retail price of 40 dollars, the most expensive perfume at the time. As told by Emmanuelle Polle, "What the clients would soon learn was that this ounce of perfume was produced through the extraction of some 10,600 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses. It was a gargantuan perfume, requiring huge quantities of fresh flowers. The couturier-perfumer was not one for artifice, be it in the way silk was worked or the walk of a model on the runway, or the ingredients of a perfume. The same line of conduct prevailed in his perfumes and his fashions: the quest for naturalness and the very best raw materials." That this house, with such a great line of perfumes, has gone out of business says just about everything re the level of absurdity we are currently experiencing. I worded out the words...Parfum and thought oh, something for me to smell! I carefully opened the bottle, thinking I better be careful or I may spill it and get into trouble. Well, I sort of did...but it wasn't for spilling a single precious drop of it at that very moment, it was for releasing a genie from its container.Jean Patou ( pronounced [ʒɑ̃ pa.tu]; 27 September 1887 – 8 March 1936) was a French fashion designer, and founder of the Jean Patou brand.

Chaldée – Patou's Huile de Chaldée sun oil had become so popular, many customers were buying it purely for its smell, therefore, Chaldée the perfume (a dry musk) was produced

Elegance is simplicity. Joy is elegance in a bottle. For all complexity of the formula, which arrived sealed and perfectly preserved, this is a stunning jasmine simply warmed by the real civet and musks inside. It’s not dirty, it’s not extravagant in a more contemporary way (think 70’s/80’s stunners); it’s simply beautiful. This is kind of disappointing. For the price, I really expected it to perform a lot better. I'm not really sorry I bought it, this in my mind is one every perfume lover should experience once in their lifetime, especially now that it's going out of production.

I was going to give the sample spray away to a friend that I figured might like it. But two weeks ago when I still had not gotten rid of it I decided to spray it on my wrist again to see what note it could possibly be that bugged me so much. But this time there was no annoying note. I was ecstatic! I finally get to "enjoy" this scent, no pun intended. I can't believe I'm saying this, but, I love the banana note. I absolutely abhor banana candy, so this is so unusual for me to find this scent so pleasant. I don't think I've ever smelled a perfume where this fruit has been integrated so well with the other ingredients, or not smelled artificial. It smells very natural, but not like a really ripe banana, as has been stated previously. It does smell like a slightly green banana that has just a tinge of sweetness. The bright aldehyde chirped loudly and made a deafening sound, like an alarm, to make people around you retreat far away, so as not to be impacted by the aftermath. Distance produces beauty. Joy is one of those scents that I have to return to periodically to fully understand and appreciate. Early on in my perfume collecting and research, I was not really interested in floral scents, but had nabbed a vintage 1/2 ounce of the pure parfum in a crystal bottle just to keep as a historical reference. However, even though I was not really interested in florals, a funny thing happened each time I would dab some on over the years, just periodically, to reassess my impressions: I slowly started to appreciate floral scents more and even started to embrace my nemesis, tuberose.
