In 2022, Osawa turned his attention to creating a manga adaptation of the Star Wars series The Mandalorian for Big Gangan. Fake Red« is a Spidey story asking »What if Spider-Man is not Spider-Man« and by doing so, creating one of — if not — the best Spidey story ever!

Spider-Man was a character that dealt with the struggles of adolescence and financial issues, ultimately considered to be a flawed superhero with everyday problems. It also includes unique character designs that give Spidey’s Rogue Gallery a feel of nostalgia and a shōnen touch, a nod to Toei’s approach to Spider-Man (No, I’m not saying this has Giant Robots, but it has the same sense of wonder that we have come to love about the webhead. I was surprised by how the heartfelt nature of Spider-Man: Fake Red had really affected me by the conclusion, but I think it perfectly drove home that while our teen years can often be problematic, within us lies a certain quiet potential for achieving the unexpected or even heroic given the right circumstance. This is a Prime example that Peter/Spider-man is a great character and not a loser or a joke he is portrayed to be in the current main Spider-man book. Naturally, out of curiosity he tries it on and soon finds himself mistaken for the real deal and fumbling through action-packed rescue and/or crimefighting situations.Together they find a way to seperate the Venom from Peter and Yu passes the mask to Peter telling him he is his hero and the true spiderman. Without the Required Secondary Powers of super-durability that come naturally to heroes like Spidey, swinging and sliding around with webs hurts when you're slamming into or dragging along hard surfaces. While feeling slightly heartbroken by the news, Yu lends his support to Emma and is satisfied with having her as a best friend. All being said though this book is the most realised the Spider-Man mythos and character has been done CORRECTLY in forever in the comic book format, probably since Bendis’s work on Miles Morales, so Marvel should be taking notes. My son is a big fan of Spiderman, which is why I grabbed this galley without much more thought to the storyline.

But Not Too Foreign: Yu is a Japanese-American high school student, making him an ideal viewpoint character to explore New York for a Japanese reader. I feel that alot of the potential of this concept, being the hero without having the powers and living up to that Spidey name, was pretty much lost at points and with so much going on there lacked deeper substance. An awkward teenager puts on Spider-Man’s suit, but quickly learns being a hero isn’t all photo ops and social media likes. In the comic panel where Spider-Man is swinging off, in the upper right corner there is graffiti of Iron Man's helmet. Even though he is out of his element, Yu has to rise out of the dark depths of his despair and save the City from whoever threatens it.It's an interesting take on Spider-Man and even if Peter is almost absent from the book the story is interesting and engaging. One day however, he finds a well-made Spider-Man outfit thrown into the trash, and decides to take it home with him to mess around with. The bullies leave and Toby walks out, Yu attempts to apologize to Toby feeling guilty for not attempting to help him.

She is afraid of what he might think of her being gay but of course he is totally cool with it, but still hurts a little since it was obvious he had a crush on her. Unsure that the real spidy can help anyone without his suit, Yu makes a choice that’ll change him in more ways than one. He is striking out socially, failing classes, and lacking confidence in himself, but that changes when he happens to come across one of Spider-Man’s costumes abandoned in an alleyway.

We start off with a very tired, defeated, sad looking Spiderman, dropping and throwing away his suit in an alley. Spider-Man : Itsuwari no Aka (Also known as Spider-Man : Fake Red), is a Japanese manga created by Yūsuke Ōsawa in collaboration with Marvel Comics. The criminals' car is driven into the webbed barrier, resulting in them and their car getting flipped upside down. And even though the series got cancelled, as far as I’m concerned, I desperately hope the story will continue some day. I later found out this has been out in Japan for a while but was only recently adapted for release here, so it's probably safe to assume VIZ timed this release close to that of the movie so the manga could ride AtSV's coattails a little.
