Through our extensive suite of tests, our only complaint is that a bit of dark detail is missing when watching SDR content. All of these qualities combine to make an image that is brilliantly solid and has a lovely three-dimensional feel. On top of all of this, detail is also outstanding, with clothing textures, skin imperfections and complex patterns all rendered crisply but without artificial definition.

We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London and Reading, where our team of expert reviewers do all of our testing. This gives us complete control over the testing process, ensuring consistency. What's more, all review verdicts are agreed upon by the team as a whole rather than an individual reviewer, again helping to ensure consistency and avoid any personal preference. The TCL 6-Series is one of our favorite mid-range TV models – and has got a QLED upgrade too (Image credit: TCL) TCL features and formats While Sony is famously coy about quoting specification ‘numbers’ for its TVs, TCL has no such inhibitions, proudly declaring that it believes the 65C845K to be capable of delivering 2000 nits of brightness. This is a remarkable claim in a TV world where we would expect similarly priced TVs to struggle to hit even a quarter of that brightness. Most TVs costing even thousands of pounds more won’t give you quite as much HDR-friendly brightness as TCL is claiming here. The color balance in the TV’s Movie picture mode was mostly accurate. Delta E values averaged out to 4 (we typically look for these to dip below 3), with a high of 6.3. Measurements made with Portrait’s Calman color calibration software showed coverage of DCI-P3 (the color space used for mastering 4K Blu-rays and digital cinema releases) to be 97%, and BT.2020 to be 76.0%, both of which are excellent results. The TCL 65P639K features 4K resolution, providing four times the resolution of Full HD. This means the TV can display more detail and provide a sharper and clearer picture. It also features HDR (High Dynamic Range) technology, which provides a wider range of colors and a more excellent contrast ratio, making the picture look more lifelike and realistic. With TVs to suit a wide range of budgets, TCL is taking the UK market very seriously, rattling its sabre at well-established elites of the industry such as Samsung and LG.

The initials stand for The Creative Life and the state-owned Chinese manufacturer typically targets the affordable end of the TV market, though it nevertheless employs some serious technology to rival some of the bigger brands. Experience colors that come alive with TCL 65 Inch TVs. Our advanced technology enhances color accuracy and contrast, ensuring that every hue is vibrant and captivating. From the subtlest tones to the brightest highlights, our TVs deliver visuals that are breathtakingly vivid. The TCL 65P639K features voice control, allowing you to control the TV with your voice. You can use the built-in microphone on the remote control to search for content, adjust the volume, and control other functions. The voice control feature is responsive and accurate, making it a convenient way to navigate the TV’s features. TCL 65 Inch TVs redefine the concept of an entertainment haven. Beyond their impressive dimensions, they serve as comprehensive hubs, connecting seamlessly to your devices, apps, and content-sharing platforms. Immerse yourself in an entertainment experience that's expansive and seamless. The subwoofer, meanwhile, eagerly underpins everything with far deeper bass than you get with most TVs, while only occasionally breaking down into mild distortions with the most extreme movie bass lines.

There is always a cost vs performance question to consider, as cheaper televisions almost inevitably mean a drop in quality from their more premium counterparts. There is a slightly cloudy look that can sometimes appear with shots and scenes that contain a bold mixture of very bright and very dark content, as the local light controls wrestle with achieving the best balance of local contrast and HDR brightness, but this is fairly rare and subtle enough to not be a major distraction.

On the operating system side of things, TCL TVs use the Google TV interface in 2023 (unlike some previous years where Android OS was the main OS system for TCL models in the UK). The TCL 65P639K offers decent sound quality thanks to built-in speakers. However, if you’re looking for a more immersive audio experience, consider investing in a soundbar or other external audio system. The TV does offer several audio settings that allow you to adjust the sound to your liking, including a speech mode, which enhances dialogue, and a music mode, which enhances the bass and treble. The various picture strengths we have talked about so far help to make the C845K an engagingly spectacular gaming TV too. Especially as the game mode delivers a decently low input lag measurement of 15.3ms with 60Hz content. This figure more than halves in 120Hz mode. This chip helps improve contrast, clarity, colour and motion and also looks after the upscaling of lower-resolution content. HDR format support covers every base, with HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Dolby Vision IQ as well as IMAX Enhanced all present and correct. If that wasn’t enough to tempt you, it also delivers excellent picture quality. The key words we use to describe the Panasonic TX-65LZ2000B’s picture are balanced and authentic, with it delivering a wonderfully “as the director intended” look to all the movies we threw at it. Whether it was Blade Runner 2049 and No Time to Die, to TV shows The Book of Boba Fett and Slow Horses or Foo Fighters horror film Studio 666, the Panasonic TX-65LZ2000B delivered a balanced, controlled and accurate picture. Skin tones are particularly impressive; whether it's Daniel Craig’s bronzed body in the latest Bond or Gary Oldman’s pallid complexion in Slow Horses, everything just looked right on the Panasonic.
