As that symbol turns up at additional sites of vandalism – not just Muslim – but Jewish, black, etc. Detective Constable Jack Lowerson and Detective Constable Melanie Yates are dispatched to investigate. All the usual characters are in this instalment and it makes a very good listen - however it is lacking a little substance and seemed to be over almost before it began. DCI Ryan’s North East Ever thought of retracing the footsteps of DCI Ryan and DS Phillips in the North East of England?

Out in The Northumberland National Park it is night time and a group of soldiers is practising shooting with live rounds when a woman runs across the terrain. Ryan and Philips, as members of Northumbria CID, and their ‘team’ must solve these crimes to prevent more death and destruction. However, I was immediately confused because the soldier in the beginning of the book sounded just like Frank and I didn’t understand what he was doing there. Nors ir tiriami du nusikaltimai, nei vienas nei kitas iki galo nesudomino, trūko intrigos, kažkokio kabliuko, dėl kurio knietėtų greičiau sužinot kas ir kodėl taip elgiasi. The plot is particularly interesting with an unusual background set in the wild lands of the Northumberland National Park.

How in the world did a lone female end up running through the middle of the moors on a huge Army training base? The author is just making money out of people now for absolutely nothing she ought to be ashamed of herself. As the body count rises, Ryan and his team must unravel the mystery behind its meaning – before it's too late. The star rating is for the sweet relationships between all the MCs plus Samantha, the newest addition to the cast. If you have read any of my reviews for the previous books in this series, you will know how highly I rate them.

Murder and mystery are peppered with romance and humour in this fast-paced crime whodunnit set amidst the spectacular Northumbrian landscape. Her eleventh novel, The Infirmary, is a prequel story to the DCI Ryan series and is available as a major Audible Originals audio-drama starring Tom Bateman, Kevin Whately, Bertie Carvel, Hermione Norris and Alun Armstrong. LJ Ross is an internationally bestselling author, whose books have sold over 7 million copies worldwide.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, the mystery, the friendships, and seeing that the goodness in mankind can overcome anything. I’ve stuck with them with all except about two but this is just a complete rip-off , it’s more like a short story. Most GR readers regard this as the most slapdash in the series, but I enjoyed it a little more than Holy Island, possibly because I was more prepared for the style of the book. now we are a few in, they seem very brief and whilst the plots are still good , I didnt find this as convincing and they are way briefer than they were. It was never at the top of anybody’s wish list to take a trip to the mortuary, but it was a necessary part of getting to know the victim and the crime. When an army exercise in Otterburn ends with the death of a civilian, DCI Ryan and DS Phillips investigate alongside the army. I gave 1* to the first in the series, read as a precursor to this, the 14th, which was chosen as a local book club read (now cancelled due to Coronavirus!

Just one comment from me - I am continually shocked as I learn of more ways people contrive to hurt or destroy fellow human beings. However, that did not happen because Detective Chief Inspector Ryan caught a case of the death of a young woman shot on the Northumberland National Park army ranges. Another exciting, fast-paced, well-written adventure for DCI Ryan and his team from the Major Crimes Unit.Rushed and short it is not a patch on the standard I have come to expect of LJ Ross, the different stories feel unrelated and tension is lacking. The Army is conducting a live-fire tactical training mission at Otterburn Army Training Ranges in Northumberland. It was often hard and unpleasant, but they kept coming back because they remembered one thing: the victim could not speak, but their body was perhaps the greatest clue to finding their killer or, in this case, to understanding how they’d come to find themselves in such a vulnerable position.
