Description

We were very pleased with the Minisforum HX90G's low emissions values. The device is not only quiet, it is also economical and always has its temperatures under control. Our test unit displayed solid performance throughout our tests with no severe faults. Its system performance is on par with that of traditional desktop devices and its gaming performance is impressive, with the Minisforum HX90G giving comparison devices equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 a run for their money.

The scores are very impressive, with some of the best benchmark results we have seen for PassMark on a Mini PC. And not forgetting the highest on 3DMark for its hardware specification. The Minisforum Neptune Series HX90G is a very compact gaming device that is equipped with a full-fledged GPU. Because of its build, the device is based on a setup that the manufacturer has repeatedlyused to produce fast mini PCs and has thus become very familiar with. Fundamentally, Minisforum has improved its initial EliteMini HX90and expanded it to include an AMD Radeon RX 6600M, making the system more suitable for 3D performance and enabling limitless gaming in 1080p and maximum details. Minisforum is a Chinese system builder that specializes in ultra-compact mini PCs. We recently had the chance to take a look at the Minisforum EliteMini HM90 and were positively impressed. Now the manufacturer has sent us the EliteMini HX90, the current flagship of its portfolio. The EliteMini HX90 is aimed at a different target group and should also appeal to gamers. We will find out if this is true when we take a closer look at the gaming performance. Nevertheless, other users should not feel completely left out because the installed AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX offers excellent performance that is also very well received in everyday use. The inside can be accessed easily by removing the four bottom screws. The base plate can then be removed with a bit of skill. If you want to replace or expand the working memory, for example, you have to remove the entire board including the cooling unit. This is fixed with another screw. The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX belongs to the Cezanne series and is based on Zen3 architecture. The SoC offers 8 physical cores with a total of 16 threads (thanks to SMT). This is particularly beneficial for multi-thread applications. The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX performs well, and the HX90G's overall performance is better than that of the HX90, equipped with the same SoC. For a more pronounced difference in CPU performance, the manufacturer could have used AMD's more recent Ryzen 9 6900HX SoC. Our performance rating has shown that this SoC is 10 percent above our system's SoC.The HX90G has another in-house opponent in the form of the Minisforum NUCXi7. The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX has the Intel Core i7-11800H under very good control, but it cannot compete with the Intel Dragon Canyon NUC, based on the current Alder Lake generation. In numbers, this equates to a 12 percent difference in performance, which we would not consider noticeable in everyday use.The Minisforum EliteMini HX90 is a very powerful mini PC for everyday use. However, only selected games can be enjoyed without any problems with the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX. Except for the barebones version, all versions come with Windows 11 Pro pre-installed. The barebones version does not include RAM and SSD; therefore, it does not have pre-installed Windows 11 Pro. There are no differences compared to the Minisforum HX90 in terms of SoC specifications. We tested the HX90G's SoC in automatic mode, with the SoC briefly reaching up to 54 watts. The long-term power limit is set at 45 watts. The SoC can be set to six different modes (10, 15, 25, 35, 45, 54 watts) to save electricity or further reduce the already low noise emissions.

Services like XBOX Cloud Gaming, Nvidia GeForce Now and Google Stadia allow PC gamers to stream their favorite games from the internet – just like with movie streaming with services like Netflix. As always, we suggest opening this in its own YouTube tab, window, or app for a better viewing experience.

Case

For that, we got 32GB of DDR4 memory, a 512GB SSD, a AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU, WiFi 6E, 2.5GbE networking, and even Windows 10 Pro that we were able to upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.

This gamingmini PC ’sperformance is further bolstered by the respectable dual-channel SO-DIMM DDR4 RAM running at speeds of up to 3200mHz. There is also an M.2NVMePCIe 3.0 SSD to provide lightning-fast loading speeds for all your apps and games. The MinisForum HX90 is a high-performance mini PC that combines a futuristic, practical design and high performance into a sleek, miniature form factor. Also on the gaming front the performance in terms of FPS of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX is good. 4K Display Need more storage? Have no fear, as the HX90 also supports not one, but TWO 2.5 inch HDDs/SSDs of your choice with its built-in SATA III drive bays. The system itself is a 195x190x60mm box, making it quite a bit larger than some of the other units we have tested. You can see a few of these near the end of the video where I held this up next to a 1L TMM PC and another Ryzen 9 unit. Minisforum HX90 Three Quarter Flat
