Description

Catatonia in varying degrees can occur in autistic children and adults. Studies suggest that between 12-18% of autistic people may present with varying levels of catatonia (Wing & Shah, 2000; Billstedt et al. 2005; Ghaziuddin et al, 2012). However, actual prevalence is likely to be higher as there are probably a lot more people with autism and catatonia who do not have a diagnosis and are not known to services.

The public sector pay pause for the financial year 2021/2022 meant there was no pay award in 2021 for the majority of DWP employees, with only some individuals at Administrative Assistant ( AA) and Administrative Officer ( AO) grades receiving an uplift. As a result, it is primarily changes to DWP’s grade distribution that has been the most significant contributor to the difference in average salaries across genders and the slight increase in our mean GPG. We have proportionally more women than men in each grade other than Grades 7/6, however proportionally more men are in our senior grades than women. Positively, compared with the 2020 data there has been an increase in the proportion of women at grades G6/7 and SCS, this has helped BEIS to continue to reduce the gap. However, there remains an imbalance in the distribution between grades by gender, (see tables below). The Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP) has prepared this report as part of the legal requirement for public authorities to publish their gender pay gap on an annual basis. DWP is the largest government department with a total headcount of 92,369 as 31 March 2022. This report fulfils DWP’s reporting requirements and sets out the actions we are taking in relation to improving gender parity. Catatonia is a rare condition. It doesnot just affect autistic people, in fact the relationship between autism and catatonia is still little understood or recognised. reducing and eliminating stress factors which may include changes in the environment, daily programme, increased staffing and support, etc. Ensured fairness of opportunity by suggesting improvements to development scheme processes, meaning recommending that pictures are removed from Aspiring Leaders Forms to limit any biases across the sifting process. Next steps we consult with all networks about our diversity and inclusion approach and key decisions on this area within the department Be bold: we know it – women are frequently not as good as men at negotiating and being assertive about what they want. So, how about we start asking? After all, the worst we risk is a ‘no’ – surely worse things happen. And what we don’t ask for, we certainly will not get.
