I also really enjoyed Celaena and Rowan’s relationship development. I’m a huge fan of enemies to lovers, and while they aren’t exactly lovers (yet?) they are very close. He starts off as such an ass! I disliked some of the things he did. But we learn his reasons, and he softens up. It was a testament to the author’s ability that she made me hate him before loving him. I think Celaena felt the same by the end: I think the King might find out about Celaena/Aelin in the next book, but as much as I want to see him dead, I don't think he will be AT LEAST until the end of book 5 at the soonest. I feel like all of the characters grew in this book. I really love the development that each character got. I feel like you got so much more from this series because of this growth. Poor Chaol is so conflicted on what he should do. What side he should be on. Dorian is trying to live with his magic and learn to control it. With that, he falls for a healer. The healer also helps him maintain his magic. I enjoyed reading her POV. This girl is a badass, and she needs to show all the other witchies who's boss. She was such an underdog at the start of the book I feel like (because she chose the "injured" wyvern), but in the end she showed them she was better than everyone else.

I read this book in almost a month. Aka, it was a slow read for me. I don't want to blame it on going on vacation. The first part of this book was really slow and I didn't get really invested until about the middle of the book. I just wanted more action with this book and I'm really hoping the next book won't be as slow. You collect scars because you want proof that you are paying for whatever sins you've committed. And I know this because I've been doing the same damn thing for two hundred years. Tell me, do you think you will go to some blessed Afterworld, or do you expect a burning hell? You're hoping for hell--because how could you face them in the Afterworld?”Honestly, there really was so much development in this one. The characters all develop in so many ways – both the old and the new ones introduced to us – ensuring that the story moves forward. There really is so much promise as to what is to come in the future books. We’re given so much information, so many questions are answered, and yet we’re still left wanting more. We have ideas of what is going on, we know certain things will come to pass, and yet there are still so many possibilities for the future. This month, I started a reread of the series to prepare for the upcoming and highly anticipated release of Kingdom of Ash, the conclusion to Aelin’s (Celaena’s) story. Read the third book in the epic saga Time Magazine called, ?One of the best fantasy series of the past decade.?

There are a number of new characters being introduced in Heir of Fire. Rowan is a fae warrior who Celaena trains with and they form a friendship. At first I didn’t like Rowan for his tough love approach but he later grows on me and I love him in the end. Aedion is a general in the King’s army and is also Aelin/Celaena’s cousin who becomes an ally of Chaol after learning that Aelin was alive. He is very devoted to Aelin and is willing to die for her. I love him. Sorscha is sweet, caring and tough in her own way and I like her. I also liked the growing relationship between her and Dorian. Manon is tough and scary and someone I don’t want to cross paths with. I liked her but unsure of why her story was being told in the first place. But as with Celaena, there was more to Rowan than the obvious. He is nursing his own hurts, and also like Celaena, he uses emotional distance to protect himself from further injury. Their similarities allow them to REALLY understand each other: As much as I hated Celaena's separation from the characters we all know and love, I loved the new characters too much for it impact my overall reading experience. I LOVE THIS BOOK. Parallel stories are another thing that made the plot more interesting and intricate. We have Aelin’s healing arc, Dorian’s magic and Sorscha arc, Aedion and Chaol’s rebellion arc, and finally Manon’s introduction arc. This series from Sarah J. Maas is one I can’t get enough of because of the world-building and the character development. Each character is growing, and some are realizing they are on the wrong side. I’m a little wary of Manon’s character, but I know she will grow on me, too. I remember when I read this book the first time, I didn’t like her at much. Go ahead and be as nasty as you want, Princess, because I’ve been ten times as nasty, for ten times longer than you’ve been alive.”

But Celaena has never been one to sit around and twiddle her thumbs, feeling sorry for herself. She pushes the things that hurt her to the side. She ignores them, and focuses on the task at hand. The interactions between the covens of witches along with their history add another layer of depth to the story and I’m really hoping that Celaena doesn’t have to fight them all because they seem very formidable. I don’t even know where to start. So many things, with no idea of where my starting point will be. Due to this, I apologise if the following review seems to jump around somewhat. YIKES. Clearly Manon is more than just a surprisingly pretty face---she is clever and determined and ruthless . . . I'm fairly certain that she and Celaena would have been friends in another life. If you haven't read Harry Potter, book 5 was filled with teenage ANGST and wallowing and self-pity, and as much as I appreciated Rowling writing the book accurately in terms of Harry's adolescence, it was still my least favorite book in the series. This book continued in the same way of Crown of Midnight, continuing to deal with the aspect of the first book that I wasn’t crazy about. Our main character continues to grow into her role of assassin, showing us why the first book was filled with so many references of how amazing she truly is. More importantly, for me, was the way people reacted to her. This time we have views that are more in line with how I feel towards her. People were sceptical of her role. People questioned whether she is as great as she claims. There is still the underlying aspect of her being so much better than everyone else is, but this time we get to see more of her. The second book showed us – to a degree – her role of assassin, and this third book showed us how some people deal with her role of assassin. In fact, through giving us a whole new cast of characters we got a lot of new fun interaction to watch. Meanwhile, monstrous forces are gathering on the horizon, intent on enslaving her world. To defeat them, Celaena must find the strength to fight her inner demons if she is to have any hope of battling the evil that is about to be unleashed.I love Celaena’s character because she has grown so much since the novellas and the first book. She’s been a fighter, and now she’s becoming a Queen. She wants to fight for her people and her country.
