It also features the first appearance of Ned Leeds who is fine here, but will cause Peter to get frustratingly jealous soon.

So many classic side characters and villains are introduced in this run, and we even get a couple almost sightings of a certain Mary Jane Watson. The depiction of the females in this book definitely feel like the 60's though, with all the women being suddenly attracted to Peter and Aunt May going in and out of the hospital and not much else. The Jackal isn’t as impressive in his earliest appearances, an arch, cackling presence setting others on Spider-Man, but had been intended for the long term, and would flourish in stories to be found in the next Omnibus.I recently read FF Vol 1, and though I enjoyed both, the story arcs in here were more intriguing, and the world building was far superior. Several of Conway’s stories have become notable, if not infamous, the best known being Gwen Stacy’s final bow at the hands of the Green Goblin, a superbly taut thriller, finely balanced between emotion and drama. Conway on his own is far better, reintroducing the novelty, excitement and twists of Spider-Man at his best, making good use of existing villains such as the Green Goblin and the Vulture, and supplying the feature with viable new characters. Spider-Man's amazingly popular omnibus line continues with the storyline that shocked the comics world: Peter Parker's deceased beloved, Gwen Stacy, shows up on his doorstep - kicking off a mind-bending clone saga that would last for decades!

The reason why Spider-Man never faltered in popularity or importance, neither as a character nor as a symbol, is all thanks to the dynamic duo of Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.Few comic books have ever come close to reaching the page-turning power, action, and drama of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. My favorite character was Betty Brant because she highlighted what a self-obsessed prick Peter Parker was.
