At the start of the book Layla runs into Caleb and she finally, FINALLY, notices him and is flabbergasted at how suddenly attractive he was. It wasn't sudden because Caleb was perfect, he was giving, kind, fun, funny, attractive, just the whole shebang but he wasn't always noticed or appreciated and it hurt my heart for him. Layla is also amazing with her sense of humor, caring nature, and optimism, but she has a lot of internal self-doubts. Her family doesn't support her decision to be a baker and she questions her own judgement, because look at the tools she's dated. They both wanted to find love though and that right person. Their dates are sometimes hilarious, sometimes sexual tension-filled, and overall wonderful. They had chemistry in spades. It's a slow burn but absolutely has some excellent steamy times. I jump in with two feet when there’s even a hint of something, pouring all of myself into everything. And then I second guess. I overthink. I try to rent out a roller rink for a single date with a girl I like. We all know where this is headed! Again, it's about the journey and this was a sweet one! Layla and Caleb are both great characters. They are likeable and I was rooting for them the entire time! Layla owns the bakeshop in Lovelight farms, and Caleb is a teacher. He has harbored a growing crush on her for a WHILE, and finally a chance meeting at a bar far outside their small town's city limits she starts to see him differently. A confession of serial bad dating has Caleb offering to be her practice man, and in return she can give him some pointers. She needs to know how much she deserves, and he wants to know what he's doing wrong. Both the main characters were so cute!! This was like sunshine-sunshine trope or perky baker-bashful guy trope or something of the sort! I think you know what I mean! So. Cute.

I’m torn between how much I relate with Caleb and how in love I’m with him. It made me want to cry how hard he was on himself, how he prepared every date with all his care and a single thing going wrong would make him feel like a failure, like it was a signal of him not being good enough for her. Thankfully, Layla could see how unfair he was being with himself, falling a bit more in love with him for trying so hard. He was a total golden retriever who deserved to be protected at all cost. Her dream finally came true at a big financial price! She is ready to do anything in her power to keep her Lovelight Farms afloat, but dead trees, raccoon infestations, and missing shipments make things even worse.

I finally get it now! Thank you, to all of you that reviewed and shelved this book, swaying me to read it! 🫶 I needed to take a break from the books I am currently reading, and this was such a beautiful surprise. The celebration of Christmas and the memories associated with it makes us more excited, and everything we do and see becomes more exciting, including the sunset.

But there’s one thing they haven’t considered. The chemistry between them is red hot. Will Caleb be the secret ingredient that Layla has been missing?

This was such an enjoyable and terrific book. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrators. I thought they did a great job. Do you want to read an extra cute, feel-good, heartwarming small town holiday story with a great mashup of fake dating and friends-to-lovers tropes? If your answer is YES, then this is the BEST fit for your expectations.
