This was my first introduction to Anton Du Beke’s writing, having normally been accustomed to watching him on my television screen during the Autumn months dancing and judging away, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Surprised not only by the rich storytelling but by the way Du Beke’s charming writing is filled with glorious characters who you can’t help but feel emotion for.

So my loves, put on your thinking caps and come up with some wonderful questions for me to answer – it’ll be like #AskAnton from our zoom sessions… but live on stage! Jones, Amy (4 April 2023). "Anton Du Beke's life off-screen from real name to becoming a dad at 50". OK! Magazine . Retrieved 21 May 2023. Du Beke has presented the BBC cookery show Step Up to the Plate. He served as a captain and from series 2 was the host on the UK version of Hole in the Wall, which premiered on 20 September 2008 on BBC One. On 24 December 2009, he appeared in Victoria Wood's Midlife Christmas, in a sketch called "Beyond The Marigolds", where he spoofed his Strictly Come Dancing role by being paired with fictional soap star "Bo Beaumont" (played by Julie Walters). Beaumont quit the show when unable to master Du Beke's warm up steps. Home on leave and still reeling from the tragic events at Dunkirk, the dashing Raymond de Guise struggles to define his role in this new world, and to do his duty both to his country, and his beloved wife Nancy- who needs him now more than ever. Ask me anything you like!… I’ll be talking about my life, my career – the inner Anton – and I shall be doing it all with dance and with song. Du Beke has released a book called Anton's Dance Class which was serialised in the Mail on Sunday. [16] Du Beke also wrote an A–Z of ballroom dancing, B is for Ballroom. [17] Mrs Moffat, head of housekeeping, is still pursuing her friendship with Archie Adams, the pianist & band leader at the hotel They are getting on really well & enjoy afternoon teas together.

It took me a chapter or three to settle into this novel, there are a lot of characters to familiarise yourself with. But if you've read the previous books you won't have that settling in feeling. I love the author’s style of writing, I felt as though I was there in the ballroom, watching the dancing and at the other end of the scale, I could feel the fear of the unstable place that England was and the trepidation of the characters with the regular bombings. Du Beke has also appeared in a number of Children in Need and Christmas Specials of Strictly Come Dancing. In 2008 he won the Children in Need 2008 special, dancing an American Smooth with Tess Daly. He danced once again with Anne Widdecombe in the 2012 Children in Need special but lost out to Russell Grant and Flavia Cacace. He did however go on to win the Children in Need 2014 special where he and fellow dancer Natalie Lowe taught a group of children how to dance. Du Beke has also reprised his partnerships with Lesley Garret and Ann Widdecombe for the 2004 and 2018 Christmas specials, respectively. He has also danced with Ronni Ancona, Su Pollard, Katy Brand and Denise Lewis in the respective 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2016 Christmas specials. In 2015 Du Beke served as a judge on The People's Strictly, a one off version of the show where non-celebrities compete for the charity Comic Relief. In 2020, he reprised his role as a judge for weeks four and five to fill in for Motsi Mabuse who needed to quarantine after travelling to Germany. On 24 June 2021, it was announced that Du Beke would become a permanent judge on Strictly Come Dancing from series nineteen, starting in September 2021, replacing Bruno Tonioli. [9] Laila Rouass comment [ edit ]Outside the hotel, London is also suffering. Not only from the real evil enemy and their bombings, but also closer to home from looters and profiteers. Raymond de Guise, home on leave and still affected by the death of his brother, is desperate to help so he joins a night watch. Helping him find his feet there is Cathy who has her own troubles which we soon discover. Raymond De Guise is home on leave from Dunkirk and is so busy helping out elsewhere, he’s not striking the right balance with his wife, Nancy. Well, my loves, I shall look forward to seeing you each weekend over the coming months, but in the meantime, keeeeep reading – ‘ We’ll Meet Again’ will soon be released, and I’d love to know what you think! One of our main characters is a handsome chap named Raymond de Guise: a professional demonstration dancer at the hotel – and definitely not based on the author at all(!) He has just married his sweetheart, hotel chambermaid Nancy but he feels it is his duty to fight for his country and enlist. Of course, these newlyweds are heartbroken to be separated. Du Beke effectively cuts the glamour and aspiration of the ballroom with the grubby, ghastly side of the war at home’ - DAILY MAIL
