The Scottish bothy bible is the first ever complete guide book to Scotland’s bothies, featuring full details on over 100 MBA bothies and more. A photographer, surveyor and ex-maintenance officer for Dibidil – a Mountain Bothy Association’s bothy on the Isle of Rùm – he is your perfect guide to exploring Scotland’s wild places. What I really like is the author gives honest accounts of the places, if one is a bit run down, you know about it before you go so you’re not expecting 5* luxury at the end of your walk. This book is everything the bothy lover could want or need, beautifully produced and enormously practical. Firstly the pictures themselves are brilliant, and a brief history is given in relation to the bothy.

however, the maps were rough hand-drawn, artistic yes, but of zero navigational value, which was a great disappointment. His engaging travel writing documents the fascinating history of each bothy and the adventurers who use them.g. romantic, solitude, Munroes, beaches, etc); explores the work of the Mountain Bothy Association; gives advice on Hill craft and staying safe. As you can tell from the front cover the photography inside is stunning and really captures the places well. Scattered across Scotland s most beautiful landscapes, these evocative abandoned crofts and farmsteads are free to stay in and offer a chance to experience the ultimate in wild adventure living. Some don’t like that they are advertised in this way, but for those truly interested and willing to follow the code and treat them with respect, it is an invaluable resource that I would highly recommend.

This detailed and beautifully photographed publishing guides you on a wild adventure through Scotland's landscapes to discover a network of bothy cabins and mountain huts that remain free to stay in. This first ever complete guide to the Scottish bothies shares the country's unique, diverse, and often hidden network of bothies, cabins and mountain huts. MOUNTAIN BOTHY ASSOCIATION 10% of the proceeds from this book go to the MBA for the upkeep of their bothies.

Great little coffee table book, but also if you're a serious hiker this is truly AMAZING because it gives exact descriptions and coordinates of how to reach these neat little houses. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Including detailed descriptions of all current Mountain Bothy Association (MBA) bothies and many other lesser-known gems. Written by the founder of the ‘Bothies on a Bike’ blog, it offers detailed information on the locations and approach routes by foot, canoe and bicycle and highlights the best bothies for Munros, beach, seclusion and families. This first ever guide to the Scottish bothies reveals the country’s unique and often hidden network of bothy cabins and mountain huts which are free to stay in and offer a chance to experience the ultimate in wild adventure living. Well written, stunning pictures, and lots of good information and tips on not only the bothies themselves but also what to bring/pack for your journey which I found extremely useful.
