The family dynamic is a central theme to this book with grief and longing, love and hope, happiness and regret all playing their part. She really does appreciate the help she gets from Valerie who looks after Lila while she works, but it does concern her that she needs to rely on her so much. Eden is a former nurse and uses her skills to work as a carer, looking after Elizabeth who requires short term care and physio. Eden is a young widow who lost her fireman husband Andy five years previously when she was in the early stages of pregnancy.

I appreciated the small references included in the book as it was set in my local area I could relate easily. But as with her parent’s life changed in an instant and the one she could depend on was taken from her. This new role offered her flexibility to look after Lila but it was also a job that she genuinely enjoyed. This week on Home and Away in Australia, Remi fears for Bree’s safety after her husband arrives in town, while Ziggy makes a shock decision about her pregnancy. To read Falling whilst flying would be a bit like reading Jaws whilst floating in the sea around The Hamptons in the US, but it’s a real humdinger of a read. I absolutely inhaled this book, my nose was buried deep within the pages for the whole of a train journey to London, and then again on the way home.

This week on Home and Away in Australia, as someone trashes the farmhouse and leaves a threatening warning, Rose is left wondering if Mali is a cheat!Overall, I would state that this book is a beautiful story of a woman finding herself again amidst all of the tragic and loss she has endured. I am not even sure which titles I read, and as this was before I began the blog or using Good Reads to record my thoughts on what I read, I have no way of checking. The novel explores a variety of significant issues – love, loss, grief, family dynamics, dysfunctional relationships, healing, and reclaiming independence.

Both Eden and Rafe are left with very young daughters that they raise on their own with some help from their personal support systems. So close in fact, that when her parents died and she was about to leave to go and live with her aunt and uncle, he had begged his parents to let Eden come and live with them.

Eden will never grow old with Andy nor will her husband be by her side to help raise their daughter, Lila. A new neighbour triggers the radar of the local group while Elizabeth curiously observes from her perch. The guests are desperate to leave, but there’s a storm coming and they’ve discovered the horrific rumours about their island. Eden, unwittingly, becomes sucked into the goings-on and a coincidental meet-up has her reconsidering her options in life, leading her to some very unexpected conclusions. Hazard played in all three World Cup games in Qatar but Belgium only managed to score once, in a 1-0 win over Canada.

Next week on Home and Away in Australia, Cash and Detective Madden will go head to head in a dramatic showdown, as Cash tries to rescue Dana from his clutches. This was just a really delightful read about loss, families and trying to make your own way along in life, coming out the other side stronger and happier. I felt inclined toward violence at their somewhat irrational behaviour and unreasonable expectations of Eden. I was left wondering why I have never read anything by her before, as this is a truly delightful book, a heartwarming story of love, loss and second chances that absolutely delivers what it promises. As Eden begins to see a way forward and a bright future beckoning, she finds herself forced to make the hardest decision of her life – one that could end up tearing her family apart forever. When she met and married Andy, and was welcomed into his vast and loving family, she felt at home, at last. The stakes become higher when Eden reconnects with Rafe, her best friend from childhood, and Andy’s domineering and emotionally manipulative mother attempts to control Eden’s life choices. So many authors come and go but she has stood the test of time and her books have brought me much enjoyment over the years.
