Allow the wax to harden. This curing process can take between 5-21 days at which stage the wax will be completely hard. If you need to clean your waxed finish once it has cured, simply do so with a damp cloth. Liming wax, with its transformative properties, is often used for a variety of applications involving wood furniture. One of its most common uses is in furniture restoration, where it gives old, worn-out pieces of furniture a fresh, updated look. By applying lime wax to a piece of vintage furniture, you can enhance its character and give it a modern, stylish appeal while still preserving its original charm. Important: Always test product on a spare surface or inconspicuous area for colour, compatibility and end result. Pinewood is a popular type of softwood that is very lightweight and strong, although not as strong as other types of hardwood. Pinewood is known for its elasticity, which allows it to resist shrinking and swelling when exposed to the elements. Thanks to its durability and affordable price, pinewood is a very popular option for indoor furniture.

If you have a piece of wood with a strong, visible grain to it – something like oak – you can really bring out this wood grain with liming wax. This isn’t a difficult technique to learn. You don’t need to bring out any paints – all you need is White Chalk Paint® Wax, a Wax Brush and a lint-free cloth.Cerused wood can be used as an alternative to whitewashing or bleaching, two wood finishes that similarly lighten and brighten wood while accentuating its grain. The simplebrush-and-buff technique used to ceruse wood isthe simplest, least messy option. Meanwhile, whitewashing requires diluting paint in water before application, and bleaching entails neutralizing the applied finish with vinegar and water. After you’ve scraped and applied and scraped and applied, comes the fun part! Liming wax! This fun little product takes very little (I’ve used this can for two projects and still have more) and goes on super fast. I even did the giant wine cooler in less than an hour! Tip: I recommend adding a water-based poly layer between the contrasting if you use white paint for the cerused pattern. The reason is to keep anything from bleeding into the white. Keep the contrasting and poly layer thin so it doesn’t fill in the grain. Step 4: The Cerusing Technique This really is about how to use liming wax, but first I want to share something with you. You might call it TMI, but I think it’s important to put it all into context. Raising the grain is also a useful step when you want to stain pinewood and use liming wax with pine. This extra step will help the grains catch the liming wax better when the wax is applied, which will allow the natural grain to shine through the layer of liming wax.

If you want to adjust the amount of White Wax anywhere, you can do this using Clear Chalk Paint™ Wax – it acts almost like a magic eraser! Dip a lint-free cloth in your Clear Wax and then use it to rub off any White Wax where you don’t want it. Do this while the White Wax is still soft. If you are interested in using a liming wax on your pinewood, there are a few extra steps to help you achieve the best result. Step 1: Sanding Liming wax, a transformative tool for wood refinishing, adds a whitewashed aesthetic and shine to furniture. Perfect for DIYers and woodworking professionals, it’s a technique ideally used when you aim for a vintage or distressed look while preserving wood’s natural beauty. What Is Liming Wax Exactly?Well what do you think? I really love it!!! And I did that in 3 easy steps – paint, dark wax, and liming wax. Can you see why I’m crazy about it? Oh and if you missed Poldark, go watch! I think you’ll see right away why it’s just an awesome show #AidanTurner Moreover, one of the significant advantages of liming wax is that it not only enhances the wood’s aesthetic appeal but also provides a water-resistant and durable finish. This makes this type of finishing product an excellent choice for pieces of furniture that might be exposed to moisture. For added stain protection and to achieve a longer-lasting finish, it can be used in conjunction with a clear wax. This combination offers a level of protection and durability that’s perfect for high-traffic areas or frequently used furniture pieces. Most Common Uses of Liming Wax Work the It In: Once applied, use a cloth to work the product further into the grain. This helps the liming wax to settle into the grain patterns, accentuating the wood’s unique character and texture. Use the wire brush to get crevices and tough areas. It will get gunky, but you can use the putty knife to scrape it off. In this article, let’s learn more about liming as a finishing technique and how to use this technique to treat something like pinewood. What Is Liming Wax?

Once all the old finish has been removed, it is important to neutralise the wood to remove any excess residue left behind from the stripper as this can cause reactions in the newly applied finish. To do this, use Liberon Wax and Polish Remover with a clean cloth and wipe over the entire piece in the direction of the grain. Once this is dry, remove any blemishes using a sanding pad or paper, again in the direction of the grain. Use Liberon Wax and Polish remover to neutralise the wood This shows the residue removed after neutralising Remove Excess: After it has settled, remove any excess product with a clean cloth. It’s important to remove the surplus product; otherwise, it could leave a cloudy residue, detracting from the desired finish.Use clear wax when removing excess liming wax so that I don’t rub a bleaching agent in across the entire piece. Pinewood can be prone to decay and rotting, which is why it is highly recommended that pinewood furniture is treated with a varnish or sealant before it is used. Treating pinewood can significantly increase its durability in your home. Using Liming Wax On Pinewood As we have mentioned, liming wax works best on exposed, bare wood, which is why any wood that has been painted or sealed with varnish or other sealants won’t be able to benefit from liming wax. In these cases, you will often need to strip the existing finish to expose the wood, sand it down, and raise the grain before applying the liming wax. Liming wax is made of a mixture of liming paste and wax made of either carnauba, beeswax, petroleum, or shellac. Liming wax has been popular for outdoor barns and outbuildings for centuries, which is why adding a layer of liming wax to your wooden furniture can give it a classic rustic feel.

I remembered I had half a container of Citristrip furniture stripper and some liming wax in the garage leftover from our wine cooler project. Why not try the bleached wood look again? The top photo is stripped, but before liming wax. The bottom is after the wax. The project took me a few days to complete. Allow a few days to dry before adding the final topcoat. This is to allow any outgassing to happen and the paint layers to harden.Time for the second pass of stripper. This is when it gets fun and you can see the real color of the wood! Waxed wood can be scrubbed with a solution of hot water and strong detergent, rinsed with hot water and when dry, wiped over with a rag dampened with white spirit.
