The saving grace was Miko and having his backstory in the first chapter set up his character perfectly! It would’ve been so easy to have Mikolaj compare Nessa to his dead sister and compare the two, invoking doubts but he stayed resolutely firm on his path as he schemed to bring about the downfall of her family but ultimately, as with all good fairytales Beauty tamed the beast.
