A great second consequence is that the bottle would last longer — but hey I just drink it more often! The story begins in 1510 with a Bénédictine monk named Dom Bernardo Vincelli at the Abbey de Fécamp in Normandy, France. There is a certain sense of surrealism as you are shown the old copper stills the drink is distilled in and as you continue on your tour, there is a definite sense of walking on hallowed grounds.

Benedictine French liqueur offers a light herbal, spicy fragrance with aromas of dried fruits, a drier palate with soft woody notes, and a mild finish of honey. found on the label stands for Deo Optimo Maximo which translates to " God, infinitely good, infinitely great. Distilled and aged in a flamboyant palace built in Fécamp in tribute to this unique liqueur Bénédictine is a subtle alchemy of 27 different plants and spices. This elixir enjoyed a huge popularity for almost three hundred years but disappeared during the French Revolution when the abbey was destroyed. In 1982 just 15% of the production of the liqueur was sold in France with 45% of the product going to the United States of America. In 1510, the Benedictine monk Dom Bernardo Vincelli developed the liqueur as a health elixir at the Abbey of Fécamp in Normandy, France. Distinctively rich with a touch of smokiness, made from the most exceptional malt and grain whiskies of Scotland.

M. Bénédictine is a unique liqueur with a romantic and mysterious past with history that includes an old Bénédictine monk, The Philosopher’s Stone, a French king, the French revolution and a catastrophic fire that would have defeated all but the most resilient.v=1596112823","options":["Size"],"media":[{"alt":null,"id":6698738712627,"position":1,"preview_image":{"aspect_ratio":1. Originally created and produced in Normandy, France as an elixir for monks to help maintain their work, Benedictine DOM is also the world’s first branded liqueur medicine. Now, despite this high level of alcohol, it is remarkably smooth and quite sweet, with a decidedly herbal scent, quite reminiscent of a cough mixture at times! I grew up in Singapore, and for many of my Chinese friends there, it is also very traditional to have DOM after having a baby. Some of the herbs and spices to create the Benedictine DOM liqueur have been used since the biblical times and many still have a place in folk remedies.
