He states that he is neutral and doesn't want to choose, to which Kushida states that she is expecting him to side with her in the future. With our point of view set through our main character, Ayanokouji Kiyotaka, who takes a very neutral approach towards anything that causes him problems or trouble, it’s an excellent way to give the reader some room in which to work out these mentally philosophical problems of inequality that present themselves throughout the first volume (something that was heavily presented in the anime as well). After bantering back and forth for a while, she inevitably decides to join him and take a look with the excuse of watching him fail at making friends.

Because of this, these kids develop a clarity and understanding of the position they’re in that most high school students in the real world don’t. The class begins to have a hostile attitude towards Sudō for his behaviour and uncooperative attitude since he doesn't agree to change his attitude. She asserts that it must have been a mistake, and it is revealed that Horikita placed third overall on the entrance exams and had top marks in academics outside of the exams. Hirata asks Kiyotaka if he could tell Horikita to get along with people as it is a cause of concern and he does not want bullying in the class. For instance, because we hear his inner voice, we're told that he has a lot of insecurities about not being able to make friends, yet he constantly behaves like a sociopath. We seem some heavy hints of serious Isolation among other things, but it's never truly expanded upon in this volume.

Even so I found myself curious to see what would happen next and how this misfit class would find its way to work together once the reality of the school set in.The author talks about this a bit in the afterword of the first novel as well, stating that this was based on his experiences when he felt tossed into the outside world once he left mandatory education systems, and this is likely his take on what that experience can feel like. He gladly shares his contact information with them as Suzune quietly leaves the club fair without saying anything. The next period, Chabashira announces that there will be a surprise mock exam that will not be reflected on the student's report card. On top of that, the way her main identity was introduced, it left a really good impact on what kind of character she is. They only agree to the plan after Kiyotaka gets Kushida to offer the person who gets the highest score the permission to take her out on a date.
