This was such a weird random video out of context. Either I missed something but I didn't understand what project the cape belongs to or when it was started. Maybe it was part of the project she didn't share because of the strike? Or more it feels like the ad was on a schedule and she had to have a video just to keep to it.

Be aware that the author is a proponent of hand sewing everything, and if you want more information about making something using a machine, this may not be the book for you. You can certainly adapt this guide to using your machine, but that's not the audience most of this book is written to.Case in point from earlier this week: her Insta stories about schooling the people who send her mail, and how dare they think she would touch anything their common hands would send to her. She cannot get out of her own way. She is a rude snob. Especially since I imagine Bernadette banner herself would take strong issue with your dismissing a lesbian relationship so callously. Learn the Historically Proven Stitches Every Seamster Needs with Beloved Historical Fashion YouTuber Bernadette Banner At first I thought she was a breath of fresh air and I really liked watching her sewing projects and research videos. And still do when she puts them up! But I also started to feel like she's snobby unfortunately. Ellis, Emma Grey (25 June 2019). "Spiff Up Your Real-World Skills With Old-Timey YouTube". Wired. Though this could be a marketing ploy by the publishing company because I just nearly bought the book to spite the reviewers, before I caught myself on

In addition to rediscovering the methods by which clothes were made in the past, the Bernadette Banner YouTube channel seeks to explore how we in the 21st century can learn from and adopt historical sewing techniques and attitudes towards dress in an effort to fight the effects of fast fashion and mass manufacture. I’m currently watching her Christmas video and finally decided to see if there was a GG thread. I’m a little disappointed that there’s only a few posts as I love having a big thread to catch up on! A significant area investigated by Banner has been the accuracy in reproductions of historical clothing, for example in films like Little Women (2019) and Beauty and the Beast (2017). [8] In addition, she has also been featured by Glamour as commentary for an analysis of Mary Poppins' dressing. [9] It's pretty on par with Americans. The US is a relatively "new" country (even though, you know, it was already settled pre colonization). In other countries, they reuse things and use things, even if they're old. In America, rather than upkeep it, we'll just demolish it, donate it, or throw it out and get something new or more convenient. I never know how to rate non-fiction books. On the writing style? On the information within? On how much it draws you in? Other than the first, these things are very personal, regarding your experience and interests.

Whether you are just getting started with sustainable fashion and need to alter your new secondhand finds, or you want an introduction to sewing techniques for making your own clothes, Bernadette Banner’s signature voice will guide you through all the traditional stitches and techniques you need to extend the life of your favorite pieces and take fashion into Mason, Jessica (2 October 2020). "YouTuber Breaks Down Five Movies That Nailed Their Historical Costumes". The Mary Sue. Archived from the original on 4 November 2020 . Retrieved 13 December 2020.What I can say about this book, is there for just from my own POV. I have very little experience with sewing, but I've always found it a relaxing thing to do - I embroider and cross stitch - and have been wanting to branch into sewing for a while now. Mainly to make a quilt, but now I also have some ideas as to how to modify some of the clothes I don't use often but deeply love. Pillow friends are not just good friends. Oh, they are that, too, but they also get hot and sweaty together and muss up the sheets something fierce.” Someone here mentioned that she liked Ren fairs and her Moiraine cosplay would fit right in. But are there Ren fairs in the UK? From what I heard it's an American thing (I certainly wasn't familiar with the concept pre-YouTube, it's not a thing in my country). Kind of sad if she isn't be able to actually wear the dress.

It is boring as hell for me. I would say, I wasted that time, except, I've knitted, so it was not completely lost... Anyhow, her statements are generally fine, except on the 1851 book, when she says, that it is high crinolin time, when crinolins were patented in the middle of the decade (so a few years later). But then again, we've already seen all this. Nothing new.Wait her facts are wrong, then it pointed to the viewer of her videos saying that it was not ment to be educational but entertainment and nothing more. Then why make such a video The Christmas video has really thrown me! How can anyone, in this day and age claim to know nothing of Christmas and all it’s traditions?? I used to really enjoy her posts and her obvious talent, but to claim she has no knowledge when it is quite easy to google and find that she has a very privileged upbringing with her parents having an article in the New York Times boasting about the size of their closet and how most New York apartments would fit into said closet! Mother is successful real estate business owner and father a builder. Sister is also very successful with high powered job in NY! It is unfortunate that she has chosen to ‘act’ in this way as I can now only view her as a historical interpreter, not dissimilar to the Mrs Crocomb that she often raves about! So fast fashion is an historical development? BB doesn't seem to know that. Neither did I, but alas I am not a Dress Historian (B.A., pricey drama school, 2017). Tbh. In the beginning i really liked Bernadette! Still kinda do. She certainly has talent although i've always cringed at some very minor sewing-decisions she made. At best, it's hypocrisy. At worst, it's her intentionally joking about a genocide and the victims, misrepresenting an oppressed people, etc so she could joke about the funny hat. Oh, and she's making money off it.
