In Lily, Benedict gives us an inspirational heroine to shout for – brave, determined and intensely human – as she sets her sights firmly on digging out the truth even as the bodies mount and her chances of surviving the twelve days of Christmas seem to recede by the hour.Including additional scavenger hunts for the reader, this clever murder mystery is the perfect gift for fans of classic mysteries, festive Christmas books, and armchair detective work. I saw this on a friends list about mystery books set during Christmas, and since holiday romance isn’t my favorite I thought I would give this one a try.

An ideal read for the festive season but just as compelling any time of year, this Agatha Christie-esque yuletide tale is a contemporary crime story with nods to classic murder mysteries. Unfortunately, I found the challenges quite distracting, so abandoned them quite early on in favour of just enjoying the read. But she is heading back after receiving a letter from her late Aunt Lilliana asking her to take part in the final Christmas Game.And then we're meant to see this aunt as a loving and caring individual who everyone looks up to and loves? This is a entertaining and engaging seasonal crime read, of secrets, Lily's, Endgame House's and others in her family, and murders, past and present. This is a clever mystery that feels current with themes of love is love (LGTBQ relationships), while distinctly evoking a Victorian flair, as Lily designs corsets.
