Rafael, el Diablo – the man we love to hate – spotted Isa in Chicago when she was only 17. He waits 16 months to introduce himself to her… When he does, it’s under a guise – she’s concerned he has a wife somewhere when she should really be concerned about the kind of man he is. He’s so much – I cannot find the words to describe him – he’s misogynistic, horrible, terrible, no good, very very BAD. But, the way he loves, the way he helps Isa to grow, his “Rafe” side, you can’t help but fall for him. If only there was a way to get into this book and claim Calix as my own (not that I would change anything because that man only has eyes for Thalia but a girl can dream)

After the Beauty in Lies series, I'm literally at a point where I will read anything by Adelaide Forrest, even if it's her grocery list! She's sooo good, I'm still captivated and hungover on El Diablo. I typically love the psychotic, completely unhinged, violently possessive villain/anti-hero MMC, but there was just something about Rafe that wasn’t quite there for me. I felt the same way about Isa, although her character development was well done and made me like her a lot more in the last 2 books. The author makes you love Rafe from the start. He is so dedicated to her it’s twisted in a beautiful way. He wants her to love him and tries to swoon her and when she doesn’t choose him he takes her anyways. I mean, he does try to give her a choice 😅.

I was also really enjoying the concept of modern mafia families fighting in a gladiator style pit. Something about that scratched a brain itch I wasn't aware of until I was actively reading it. Isa finally puts herself first and takes the chance on the vacation of a lifetime in Ibiza. Things start to heat up when she meets a mysterious guy and immediately feels a connection she can’t quite break free from. She’s unaware her new love interest is a man that’s orchestrated the entire trip giving ten days to fall in love with him….or else. He will stop at nothing to return to her side and protect her, In every way possible from the evil in the darkness.

It’s official, Adelaide Forrest is my favorite mafia romance author, this book was everything you could ever want in a mafia romance. Angst, spice, family drama, tension, and bloodshed, it has it all.When she thinks it’s time to go home and end things between them, Rafe reveals that he has other plans in store for Isa. Additionally, I wish this series had been condensed or spread out differently. I struggled slightly to stay interested through the first 2 books. I’m glad I did because the last 2 books were so great and full of all the action and twists that I love! I am glad we did not have to go through the phase where the H was cold and brooding. Always horrible in his treatment of the h but instead we got COMMITMENT right from the beginning. I also love that he is not afraid of having anyone (friends, enemies, family etc) know how much he loves her and cherishes her despite her being his only weakness. Pero en resumen, Thalia al saber que se tendría que casar con un hombre que apenas conocía, quería tener el derecho aunque sea de decidir cuándo y con quién tener sexo por primera vez, por lo que con ayuda del infiltrados de Calix, ella se escapa y termina teniendo su primera vez con un total desconocido, o eso es lo que cree, ya que si no adivinaron, este presunto desconocido no es más ni menos que el mismo Calix. Whew, you guys, this one was dark 😮‍💨 like, picture as dark as Haunting Adeline, if not darker! This was such an intense mafia series, but damn, was it addicting!
