Description

Caffé Letterario is probably the best cafe in Rome for travelers as well because you’ll feel very welcome here and the couches are so comfy. University students drop by since the faculties are only a short walk away from the café, but the place is never crowded. If you’re hankering for a cappuccino rather than the more traditional espresso shot, the Bar del Cappuccino is the place to come. They do serve a full range of coffee options, but their specialty, as the name suggests, is cappuccino, which comes hand-decorated. Inside the nineteenth-century style rooms are exhibited about 300 pieces including works of art and ancient artifacts. Even today, every first Wednesday of the month, the Group of Romanists, academics who specialize in Rome studies, meets at the café. The menu is delicious, as well, featuring steaks, wraps, pies, and plenty of tasty beverages to choose from.

Breakfast at a café in Rome (which we commonly call “bar” or caffetteria) means having cappuccino and cornetto or other breakfast treats while standing at the counter. The sweet fruitiness of the grappa paired perfectly with the cherry notes of the house blend recommended to me by my barista. If you’re looking for an unusual and non-alcoholic drink, try a taste of Barnum’s cold brew or Aeropress coffees. The main reason to come here is for the view, but if you are not willing to pay for the view, I’d go elsewhere.
