Description

In fact, arguably, it’s the only week of the year we make whisky the way it used to be made – using smoke from a heavily-peated furnace, like in the very old days when every farm burned peat from the land. Though there have been other The Week of Peat whiskies before, this is the first to be aged 17 years – three years longer than its peated predecessor. Released as part of The Balvenie Stories during 2021 and exclusively made available in the UK through Clink, Week of Peat 17 Year Old is now available through selected specialist retailers. For a week a year, The Balvenie distills a batch of peated malt, resulting in a whisky rich in honey, vanilla and citrus notes with an extra layer of delicate smokiness. The extra three years in ex-bourbon casks has mellowed out the peat beautifully in this 17-year-old, yet retains its complexity, as the craftsmanship in maturation and use of traditional malting floors shines through. This lot is being sold by either; 1) a non-UK seller or 2) a VAT Registered Business, and is therefore subject to VAT.From new casks and inspiring landscapes, to experiments with recipes and royal roses, this series is a love letter to the people of the distillery that is written in whisky.

Rather than their usual battles on the martial arts mats they are going to let the whiskies do the fighting.

The three extra years in the ex-bourbon casks have mellowed out the peat but retained all the same character, depth and body that the previous expression is loved for. There is an initial aroma of gentle smoke on the nose of this unique peated whisky, alongside heather, orange peel and tropical fruit, with light butterscotch and sweet vanilla. It’s also the second peated expression to be released by The Balvenie since 2002, when former distillery manager Ian Millar started making peated whisky at the Speyside distillery on an annual basis.

It is one of three distilleries on William Grant's Dufftown site, along with Glenfiddich (the first established) and Kininvie (.
