When installing in vehicles (non-earthed neutral) we recommend for your own safety that you install an insulation monitor (VDE 0100-410 and EN 60204-1). It can be shown that the minimum distortion of a three-level waveform is reached when the pulses extend over 130 degrees of the waveform, but the resulting voltage will still have about 30% THD, higher than commercial standards for grid-connected power sources. Therefore, pure sine wave inverters may provide significantly higher efficiency than modified sine wave inverters. For SCRs connected to an AC power source, commutation occurs naturally every time the polarity of the source voltage reverses.
