About this deal

HOW MANY LAVENDER SUNSETS< BURNT CITRUS CLOUDS< AVOCADO BRUISED SEAS AND VIOLET SKIES MUST WE ENDURE? I would rather sit down to eat and think with Jessica Andrews any day: Milk Teeth is a novel about holding space, and the hard work that it takes.

I thought I had chosen London as the place where I would make my own life, but its edges were sharp and cruel and I got caught on them, bloodying my ankles and wrists. The friendships were stupidly realistic, with drifting apart, with parties that make your eye twitch thinking about now, and with so much love and dependency. I still haven’t got around to reading Jessica Andrews’ debut, Saltwater, leapfrogging over the copy on my TBR to read her new novel.

I watch you wheel your suitcase onto the train in your black boots and dirty black jacket, black curls falling into your eyes like an alley cat. Her writing is striking – vibrant descriptive passages coupled with stark observations as our narrator struggles to understand what she wants, having spent much of her life running away from herself. In Saltwater Andrews sought a voice that is her own, something she has truly settled into in Milk Teeth.

I would've definitely appreciated this when I was younger, but there's still a small part of my soft-grunge early internet self that appreciates works of art like this, style over substance, early Sofia Coppola films that erect emotions out of the mundane. honestly i was just bored the whole time and a bit shocked it was so focused on and ed without any mention of it on the blurb?Milk Teeth follows an unnamed young woman, restless and unable to define quite what she wants from life, who falls in love with a man who seems to want her as much as she wants him. Partly I think it’s to do with the subject matter -more the romantic relationship entanglements, which became a tad repetitive in nature (also I’m not a huge romance fan) and perhaps also to do with the narrator herself. much like its predecessor, milk teeth is a novel that forgoes traditional form structure and all barriers of language. These things follow her into adulthood where her battle to resist the throes of falling in love come up against her need to be whole alone.
