People are trying to get here but it is 10 or 15 miles out the way and an extra half an hour to get here." In the late 1800’s the eldest son of Queen Victoria, Prince Edward, frequently disembarked at Holmsley with his then mistress, Lillie Langtry, enroute to their exclusive residence in Bournemouth. A post shared by Rhinefield House Hotel, Hamps. Fantastic tea room normally, but at present they are building a bridge next door, so at times it has a contingent of the navvies therefrom using the tea room as their canteen, in their work clothes.

We popped in for a cooked breakfast and what a delight. Gorgeous food, especially the sausage & bacon. Absolutely abysmal service. It was less... than half full inside, with nobody seated outside. We were shown to a table and left with menus (it was 3pm so we only wanted a cup of tea and a slice of cake each). The young girl disappeared to …More In 1899 Robert Louis Stephenson, who was a local resident, cast Holmsley Station as ‘Browndean’ the fictional station in his novel ‘The Wrong Box’. Went today for afternoon tea and was really disappointed!!! I was with a friend so didn't feel I could complain in front of her. The savoury cream tea scones were microwaved so not very nice as they were chewy and soft not crispy as they should be, even my friends sweet cream tea scones were on the very well done. These adverts enable local businesses to get in front of their target audience – the local community. Mr Jensen, 53, has made every effort to help customers plot a route to the venue, including moving the business's location on Google so the company's map software provides a useable route. Facing three months of minimal trade, Mr Jensen scrapped plans for a refurbishment of the tea rooms. The Old Station tea rooms, or Holmsley Tearooms as many people know it, is very pleasant, bright and clean inside with plenty of room.

Castleman’s Corkscrew: a walk along an old New Forest railway

June 1st 1847 saw the opening of the station at Holmsley. It was located where the line met the A35, the main route from Christchurch to Southampton, and referred to (until 1894) as Christchurch Road. The trail passes along a disused railway line from Burley to Holmsley Tea Rooms which is in the old disused station. There are still a few remnants of the railway which are interesting features. To allow the work to take place, the A35 has been closed in both directions, as has the C10, which runs underneath the main road, for months. For the longer walk turn right along a narrow earth path through trees and after 150 metres ignore a path off to the left.Follow it for half a mile and go beneath two railway bridges. About 400 metres beyond the second bridge turn right along the road to Setthorns and Burley. After approx 500 metres turn right at the sign for Longslade View car park. The growing popularity of the cars in the 1950’s meant a serious assessment was made of the network, culminating in the now infamous Beeching Report in 1963. On the way out we were tempted by the amazing looking sweet treats and ended up buying a lemon meringue pie & banoffee pie to take away... with us. After bringing it to the attention of the staff, we were told that it “must have been a piece of the bag of flour that fell in the batter this morning, I wondered where that went.” Refreshments:The whole point of our walk was to visit The Old Station Tearooms in Holmsley, which is well worth a visit. Dogs aren’t allowed in the cafe, but there’s plenty of seating outside, with some undercover.

History – The Old Station Tea Rooms Holmsley

Service was excellent and friendly and the staff had to deal with the crowds who were sat outside now looking for indoor tables due to the heavy rain. For me and the business here, when we get to Mother's Day it means we have survived another year because the winter is quiet.

This has left the Old Station Tea Rooms only accessible from Burley, with complicated diversions in place.
