Eager to put the Pull-On through its paces, I decided to head out for a day’s running in the Peak District. It was a fine day but significantly cold up on the tops. The wind chill was about -4 when up high and exposed, perfect conditions to see how the Lite-Speed performed under pressure. Many of the items we sell will come with the full manufacturer's guarantee. SMU, Ex Display and production products are covered under these conditions. The dense outer faceproves quite an effective barrier to wind. In cold, windy conditions close to zero degreesI've worn it over a baselayer, and felt comfortably warm and well-protected when on the go. To aid freedom of movement there's a little bit of stretch in the fabric, but not nearly as much as you'll get with something like a Powerstretch fleece. The face does feel very tough though, and while this has only been a short term test so farI'd be confident of its durability for rigorous uses such as scrambling. It's trim in the lowerarms, which isgood in terms of reducing unwanted bagginess - and there's no cuff adjustment to get in the wayeither. But since the fabric doesn't stretch much, if you have a climber's forearms thenyou won'tbe able to roll the sleeves up - something I do like to do when needing to cool down without wanting to stop and adjust layers.

As a runner I generally want my kit to do more than just one job, it needs to be light weight, highly functional but simple and fit for purpose… or even better, a few purposes! You won't fit this hood over a helmet, and neither is it very satisfactory worn under one. This is a shame since the cut of the Krypton otherwise makes it well suited to climbing. In stormyconditions the fit can be closed right downusing two toggles, and there's a little stiffened brim to help the hood hold its shape in the wind.However these external toggles are fiddly to use with gloves or cold hands, while the brim unfortunately rides quite high, to leave a strip of forehead exposed. For three-season use the Lite-Speed is ideal. The weight is quite low, the features excellent. My only complaint is about the sizing. In earlier versions the Medium fits me. In the current one the Large is only just big enough. The Lite-Speed is close to perfect for mountain use when you want protection from wind and maybe light rain or snow, but don't want to put on a hardshell because, even with the best fabrics and best designs, they simply don't breathe in the same way that a non-proofed nylon windproof like the Lite-Speed does.Any item not in its original condition is damaged or missing parts for reasons not due to our error

There’s a little bit more stretch to this fabric than there is to Pertex Quantum, and this aspect, combined with well-articulated arms, makes the Lite-Speed much better-suited to climbing, mountaineering and running, in comparison to the previous generations. I’m 6ft 2 and about 92kg. I found that a size Large in the Lite-Speed Pull-On was a perfect fit for me. Whilst I can get into a medium, it was slightly too small for me so I sized up for a better fit.
