This retinoid is a nice step up from Granactive Retinoid 2% in Squalane if you’re looking for great results with minimal irritation. See this post for my experience with this retinoid serum. Note : Retinol oxidizes or degrades just like vitamin C, and when this happens the liquid will turn to dark brown. Ensure to keep/store your retinol serum in a cool dry place (away from sunlight) or better still store in your refrigerator to prolong shelf-life. The Ordinary Tip: Start with Retinol 0.2% in Squalane and slowly work your way up to Retinol 0.5% in Squalane and Retinol 1% in Squalane. That said, if you are prone to sensitivity, you may prefer to use newer retinoid technologies, such as those found in our Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion.

This study demonstrated that adapalene 0.1% gel is as effective as tretinoin 0.025% gel with less irritation. The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid is not a retinol, it’s a type of retinoid. Retinol and Granactive retinoid are both types of retinoids, but retinol is weaker and less stable. Many people compare their Granactive Retinoid Vs. Retinol but they’re not the same at all! Is retinoid and retinol the same? Also, it’s important to note that in the study, improvements were greater after 60 to 80 days than 30 to 46 days, so don’t expect complete results overnight. The Ordinary offers a variety of retinoid and retinol concentrations at ridiculously low prices to target the signs of aging, including wrinkles, fine lines, dullness, and more. Without getting heavy on the chemistry, hydrogenation modifies squalene so that it’s more stable and has a longer shelf life. This modified version is called squalane. The squalane used in skincare products comes from shark liver oil or vegetable oils, though it’s mostly plant-derived due to ethical reasons. In fact, The Ordinary recommends keeping all of their retinol/retinoid serums refrigerated as doing so will provide maximum effectiveness. Retinol tends to have a shorter shelf life than squalane. Squalane is more stable because it has undergone hydrogenation. That being said, if you have sensitive skin, you might want to skip this serum entirely and look at alternate retinoid technologies. Scroll down for some effective options for sensitive skin. Granactive retinoid is not “better” than retinol, per say. Granactive retinoid is stronger, more stable and less irritating than retinol. It’s also more effective. So why choose retinol over granactive retinoid? There are times when retinol still makes sense! If you have extremely sensitive skin or are just starting out with retinoids, retinol is a great place to start. Is The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid a Retinol? Caution: Retinoids can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. Sun protection is particularly important when using retinoids. This product must not be used in conjunction with other retinoids including retinol or retinoic acid. This product is not a treatment for acne.

The effect is similar to exfoliation because it gets rid of dead cells at a faster rate. As a result, it can brighten dull and dry skin while creating an even tone where there’s discoloration. Best retinol products As previously noted, it takes two conversions for retinol to become available to the skin. While it is not the most potent retinoid available, retinol is still quite effective. The Ordinary cautions that retinol can cause irritation, redness, and peeling on your face and around the sensitive skin of your eyes and mouth until your skin builds up a tolerance.

Will you be claiming the VAT back?

Granactive retinoid is the best choice for acne because it’s more effective than retinol and has less side effects. That means you’re getting all those acne-fighting benefits without having to worry about making your skin more angry. Granactive Retinoid Vs. Retinol For Sensitive Skin The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion is formulated with two forms of next-generation retinoid actives. It contains 2% Granactive Retinoid, a retinoid complex manufactured by Grant Industries. Ultimately, both granactive retinoid and retinol can be effective for improving the appearance of skin. However, granactive retinoid may be a better option for those with sensitive skin or for those who are looking for a more potent product. The reason Retinol is less effective is because it has to go through two conversions for our skin to be able to use it. So when retinol is applied, it doesn’t do anything until those conversions happen. The conversion itself takes some time, which is why retinol is considered less effective than other forms like tretinoin. It also means its more gentle. Wondering what does granactive retinoid do? Well, as it turns out, quite a lot! It has many of the same benefits of retinols but the benefits are even better because granactive retinoids are stronger than OTC retinols.

The result is a reduction in the look of wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and sun spots, a more even skin tone, and improved skin texture. Granative retinoids can provide similar results as retinol but without any or with minimal side effects. If you choose to use one of The Ordinary’s retinol over their Granactive Retinoids, they recommend that you start with this 0.2% retinol formula. It is best to avoid using the following products in the same routine. You can use them in alternate routines, AM/PM or on different days. The Ordinary states that HPR, an ester of all-trans direct retinoic acid, offers a better reduction of the signs of aging than retinol, retinyl palmitate, and most other non-prescription retinoids. As an emollient, squalane’s role is to increase your skin’s smoothness, softness, and flexibility. It improves skin hydration by repairing the protective barrier and limiting the evaporation of epidermal water. This creates a swelling effect in the stratus corneum (outer layer of the skin).

Retinol: The star ingredient in this serum, retinol helps to reduce wrinkles, improve skin tone and texture, and increase dead skin cell turnover for a brighter complexion and a reduction in hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Retinol can cause irritation, redness and peeling, particularly around the eyes and mouth, in the early stages of treatment while skin builds tolerance. This is why it is important to start with 0.2% or 0.5% Retinol first. Retinaldehyde must be converted to retinoic acid before our skin can use it. This conversion dilutes the strength of the retinoid active. This formula is extremely lightweight and does not irritate the skin. You should apply it after water-based serums and treatments but under heavier products. If this 1% concentration doesn’t work for your skin, or if you aren’t seeing the results you want, you may consider switching to a stronger retinoid like retinaldehyde.More stable –One major problem with retinoids is that they aren’t incredibly stable and break down when exposed to light and air (which means they become ineffective). Granactive retinoids are significantly more stable, which means they have a longer shelf life and you don’t have to worry as much about using an older retinol. Bottom line: the difference between retinol and granactive retinoid is that granactive retinoid is more effective and less irritating than retinol.
