The rum is a blended rum in London first for decades but starts with very young oak notes, adds in the almonds and then finishes with charcoal . Subsequently, the rums were transported to Britain, where they were mixed in the very heart of London and left to age for 6 months. With alluring vanilla sweetness with flashes of vibrant tropical fruit and a wonderful toasty oak character, Charles Merser Double Barrel Rum is perfect in vintage London serves such as the Palmetto or Knickerbocker.Award-winning Merser seeks out the world’s finest rums, then blends them in London to bring out their individual characteristics in perfect harmony. Hints of tropical fruits as well as butterscotch and an oaky sweetness, Merser Signature is elegant, distinctive with a wonderfully smooth finish. In keeping with traditions established by the London brewing houses of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, there is no sugar or coloring added to rum aged in oak barrels. And to make it slightly more confusing, at an online tasting last year it was stated that there’s rum from Guatemala in there too, with the components aged up to 8 years. hails from the Hayman family (yes, the same folks behind Hayman's Gin), and is London's first rum blending house in over a century!

Such a smooth and delicious rum with a fascinating story – the best rums from the Caribbean blended in London (apparently London used to be a rum hub) with no added sweetness or colouring. Award-winning Merser Double Barrel Rum captures the best rums of the Caribbean, from Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica aged up to 12 years, which is then blended in the heart of London and left to “marry” in barrels for a further 6 months.

The result is a genuine and beautifully balanced golden rum to be enjoyed with your favourite mixer. Even if the profile tends to be more towards the light and woody Dominican Republic rums, I found that the Barbadian and Jamaican component additions add some nice vibrant fruit layers along with a bit more body, but not too much so it overtakes the overall easy-going style. The bottle represents more than meets the eye too, with the dimpled bottle representing the River Thames on which rum was transported, while the hound and post logo is a little nod to the days when most Londoners couldn't read, and would follow symbols to find their way to merchant houses. If we have many of the same product available, the photo represents the less well preserved of them. Elegant, distinctive and wonderfully smooth, its personality will shine through with your mixer of choice.

it starts off with bit of a kick to it to start but settles into a more balanced rum as you drink it. Before all the world went into lockdown a few years ago, Ive tasted this in Canary Wharf Waitrose and loved it.Not a bad rum to enjoy in the evening with a friend, when you don't want to bring out the really good stuff! The palate is mouth-coating, warming and generous with soft notes of vanilla, more of that tropical fruit and some wine-like notes created through the cask maturation process.
