As unforeseen circumstances can, on rare occasions, cause delivery issues, we do not recommend booking any tradesmen until your items have been delivered. After a second wash, the board was generally free from any marks, although there was still a slight orange patch on the Osmo and Treatex sections of the board. Short Test - Blanchon Original Wood Environment Hardwax oil is a type of wood finish that is made by blending natural oils and waxes with a small amount of solvent. The oils used in hardwax oil are typically linseed oil, tung oil, or a combination of both, while the waxes used are often beeswax, carnauba wax, or a blend of these waxes. The solvent used in hardwax oil is typically a low-odour, volatile organic compound (VOC) free solvent, such as white spirit or mineral spirits. The result of this blending process is a natural wood preserver that can skewer deeply into the wood and form a protective layer on the surface, while also enhancing the natural beauty of the wood grain. How Does Hardwax Oil Work? Application of the first coats were all done under warm conditions where the sun was shining onto the board. These conditions remained the same for all of the finishes. Treatex Hardwax Oil Traditional - Clear Satin As a top coat for surfaces treated with Spruce Colour Tone : For a more pure white, seal Spruce Colour Tone with two coats of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Natural. When Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear is applied on top of our Spruce colour tone, it can have a slightly yellowing effect on the colour.

From the results of the first test, we decided that the hard wax oil finishes had clearly had it too easy! Clear Hardwax Oil must always be used as the final coat when Natural Hardwax Oil or Colour Tones are applied* fl oz (2.5 L) will cover approximately 50m² in one coat / 30m² in two coats depending on the timber and method of application. Treatex was relatively easy to apply, however its runny nature meant that you had to be careful whilst doing so.

Certification and Data Sheets

As mentioned above as apart of the updated test, the washing up liquid proved to be too much for the Blanchon Original Wood Environment.

In terms of the way the finish looks we believe the Blanchon and the Fiddes Hardwax Oil were the best This combination was then applied to boards across and with the grain using a roller. Once dry, a further two coats were applied as before. Complies with regulation DIN 68861-1B: Resistance to spills of water, wine, beer, coffee, tea, fizzy drinks etc We found that both of these finishes after two coats, left the board with a deep natural honey colour which was very attractive. The Fiddes Hardwax Oil was immediately the smoother of the two, but the Blanchon did eventually become smooth. Before the oil could be applied to the board, we had to shake and stir it. The oil itself was a beige colour which was thin and easy to apply. After the washing up liquid proved to be the environments weakness in the previous test, it was interesting to see how it would react to the long test. Over this period, the vinegar dried onto each of the finishes, but took the longest to do so on the Osmo Polyx-Oil. If you find decay, mould or fungi, this should be treated first with Treatex Preservative. Exterior timbers with high tannin levels should be treated with Treatex Stain Inhibitor. Timber must have a moisture content below 18% and the temperature should be between 8 and 24 degrees celsius during application and drying. Deciding which finish looks the best is generally down to personal preference, but from the above results we have come to the following conclusions:
