The laptop's camera quality is very poor. My face was blurry, pixelated, and a lot of details on my tattoos and beard were missing. I had trouble accurately capturing bright colors from my LG CX’s rainbow-colored screen saver, which could be seen behind me. When I tried capturing footage in a brighter room, I noticed how much blur was removed. But the better lighting only makes the pixelation more noticeable. Its 2560 x 1600p performance was also impressive here, coming in only slightly below its rivals’ 1080p performance.Aesthetically, Legion laptops hide their gaming light under a bushel. Turn the light show off and it could pass as just another powerful workstation laptop. It should appeal to those who want a notebook for serious work as well as serious play.

Even so, I’d rather Lenovo would push a higher TDP of around 130-140W for this mode, paired with fans around 44-45 dB, if possible. That would make more sense to me on a Balanced profile. As it is, this Balanced mode is very close to the Quiet mode in terms of GPU performance and even fan noise. NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU: High-End laptop graphics card based on the Ampere GA104 chip. At the time of the launch in early 2021, the 3080 is the fastest laptop graphics card on the market. On the other hand, this laptop is one of the friendlier and carefree designs in its class, with the gray color scheme doing an excellent job at hiding smudges and finger oil, which means you won’t have to bother cleaning this as often as a darker design. The keycaps are color-matched with the chassis, thus smudge-resistant as well. Update2: 2022 updates of the Lenovo Legion 7 series are available now, in both Intel and AMD variants. Our full review of the 2022 Legion 7i series is available here. Specs sheet as reviewed– Lenovo Legion 7i 2021 By making a .bat file with the following text, I was able to load a static per-key RGB setting that I desired and then run that batch file to kill the process. This, in result, prevents the severe battery drain that the iCUE service causes, but still allows me to have custom colors that are not the default ones baked into the firmware. Here’s the .bat contents:To simulate an extended multitasking work session, our battery test continually streams video, browses the web and runs OpenGL tests over Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness. Lenovo Legion 7i Heat A MUX is offered here, with Advanced Optimus. Vantage also allows for a couple of power modes. Hybrid enabled Advanced Optimus and should cover most needs as long as the laptop is plugged in. For battery use, though, you should opt for Hybrid-Auto or Hybrid-iGPU mode to prevent the dGPU from waking up and affecting your runtimes. A dGPU-only mode is also available, and this requires a restart to enable. Our review laptop also came with a 16-inch 2560 x 1600 IPS screen with a 165 Hz refresh rate, as do all other configurations for this laptop. Speaking of the RGB, there’s a small amount of it in the logo inside the O, but it’s actually well done in my opinion. I actually kind of like it, and this is coming from someone who usually criticizes any lighting on the lid. But in the office, you can easily just turn it off by pressing Fn-L and you’d never even know it was a light. Needless to say, the CPU/GPU pairing is beyond expectations. I was originally going for the RTX 3070 model, but it kept getting delayed (I think out to November!), so I chose this one on a whim. I’m not disappointed, as you’ll soon see.

The internal temperatures slightly different though. I retook my Horizon Zero Dawn testing and jotted down the results. Take a look: Mode On the Quiet profile, btw, the CPU runs at only 25W, with sub 30 dB noise levels and temperatures in the 50s C. The crosshair in the Legion logo on the lid also glows with RGB lightning too, creating a cohesive glow that will be the envy of your PC gaming rivals. You do get is the option to easily switch off the LEGION RGB logo with FN+L, if you want to. However, I couldn’t find a way to disable the lightbars independently of the keyboard, though – not sure if that’s not an option, or I just couldn’t figure it out. You can manually customize each light zone in Spectrum, but there’s no OFF option of any kind. The last major hardware item to cover is the SSDs. There are two of them on this model, 1TB each. They are also in RAID 0 for a boost in performance. But is it worth it? I’m going to lean towards no…Not that I would call this keyboard loud… but the spacebar key makes significantly more noise than the other keys, which kind of got on my nerves once I started to notice it. I can still live with it though. The Ryzen model also has 32GB of DDR4 3200Mhz RAM, with two 16GB DIMMS. They are Samsung on this model but are still 1Rx8, meaning they are the slower-latency single ranked kind. On to more demanding loads, we start by testing the CPU’s performance by running the Cinebench R15 test for 15+ times in a loop, with a 1-2 seconds delay between each run. I did a number of synthetic benchmarks on this laptop. For my first run, I set Lenovo Vantage to Performance mode: When I listened to Bad Habits by Ed Sheeran on these speakers, I reached easily audible volume at around 14%, which became comfortably loud at around 36%. Pushing the volume all the way to 100% was completely unnecessary but filled my entire two bedroom apartment with sound without issue.
