The amazing thing, to me, is that perfumes like Aramis 900 have been so cheap for so long, but in 2009 it seems to have dawned on Estée Lauder Inc what they had on their hands, and six perfumes in the Aramis range – including Aramis 900 – were relaunched and repackaged in matching bottles.

The coriander note, which combines beautifully with the green notes and the lily of the valley note, brings out the spicy aspect of the fragrance. It is however rather a generic scent “signature” as has been around for so long I guess it has mingled with so many other popular scents over time, thus lost its uniqueness. It makes you think of those old perfumes that our grandmothers or mothers used when they went out to "hang" 🤭. Sadly it has been reformulated a couple of years ago and the magic has gone; try it every once in a while again, to be disappointed every time. The similarity with Aromatics Elixir (AE)is undoubtful, and since have AE in my collection, I skip this one. The salty effect is quite powerful and the rose isn't dominant as voted (at least for the first 5 minutes in). Anyone can make you look up by being loud and boorish, but it takes a cut above to get that second glance.

In classic Estée Lauder fashion, there are effectively masculine and feminine versions of one fragrance, as is also the case with JHL/Cinnabar, Devin/Alliage, Aramis/Azuree. Top notes are Coriander, Green Notes, Brazilian Rosewood, Bergamot and Lemon; middle notes are Rose, Carnation, Geranium, Lily-of-the-Valley, Jasmine and Orris Root; base notes are Oakmoss, Civet, Patchouli, Vetiver, Sandalwood and Amber. It sounds like a leg-pull, but then we’re also told that the Lauders were working with an Armenian designer at the time by the name of Arame Yeranyan, so you never know; I’ll let you know if I can get a definitive answer out of somebody. I see by the lot number that it was manufactured in February of 2017 therefore it is a bit past its 3 year shelf life. Disclaimer: Sellers are responsible for following applicable laws and regulations, including properly labelling and disclosing the ingredients of their cosmetics and personal care products, as applicable.

In fact, as it’s often been pointed out, if Aramis 900 hadn’t been marketed for men, it would have worked just as well as a woman’s scent – a good example of the obvious but too rarely grasped fact that in itself perfume has no gender. However, in the future, before making cologne purchases, I am going to inquire about the lot or batch number so that I am certain that the cologne still has shelf life left. Aramis 900 dries down into a blissful woody-patchouli base with a warm, slight touch of civet: nothing aggressively animalic, but I don't believe that was the intention. It is bracing and herbal With astringent use of florals, which is typical of geranium in my experience. There's nothing magical about the residual phase -- it's just OK, but pretty generic for this kind of old school fragrance --, but the opening phase is actually pretty good.
