Natalie (in Japanese). February 6, 2017. Archived from the original on July 21, 2021 . Retrieved December 13, 2020. Layne Fargo’s They Never Learn isn’t chilling. No, it’s a sparking fuse leading to an explosion of feminist rage. This is a thriller that will prove disturbingly cathartic for female readers; too many moments will ring a familiar note for far too many. Even if you’ve never tweeted #MeToo, you know someone who has. This book is bloody, violent, somewhat disturbing, and extremely entertaining. I was blown away by author Layne Fargo’s ability to etch out the characters so well and keep me intrigued at every chapter. There’s plenty of unsuspecting twists that tie everything together, and you will not want to stop reading as you get deeper and deeper into this dark story. This surpasses Fargo’s debut novel, TEMPER, by far.

Every year for the past sixteen years, she’s honed her skills, plotting, and executing the murders of men she deems deserving, the last seven at Gorman University where she teaches. Whether student or professor, he’s on her list because he’s done something to separate his behavior from that of the typical dreadful men who come across Scarlett’s path. Her preparations are meticulous, so she’s never drawn attention to herself. Even when she was in Chicago, killing on a much larger scale, she went undetected. Now, it’s time to start planning her biggest kill to date, but psychology professor Dr. Samina Pierce starts looking into the growing body count on campus. Scarlett’s come too far to allow anyone, even—or maybe especially—the brilliant and attractive Dr. Pierce to get in her way, so she inserts herself into the investigation, hoping to keep tabs on Pierce’s progress and foil her efforts. Everything’s falling into place until she loses control during her latest murder. Suddenly, her perfectly structured secret life is at risk of discovery. Use italics (lyric) and bold (lyric) to distinguish between different vocalists in the same song partThese ‘revenge stories’ are usually a hit or miss with me... I would have rated this book higher if the ending were different and if I wasn’t able to predict the ‘alliance’ between the three women near the end. Second in the military crime series featuring Special Agents Scott Brodie and Magnolia "Maggie" Taylor, after The Deserter (2019).

They never do, men like him. Well, he’s more of a boy, really. The garage’s fluorescent overhead light emphasizes all the still-adolescent features of his face: the downy excuse for a mustache on his upper lip, the pimple swelling in the crease between his nose and his cheek. I absolutely loved Scarlett and Carly as characters, and I just had the best time reading this book. I've seen some people comparing this book to the show Killing Eve, which I can definitely see. I don't know if this would be considered dark academia or not but it all takes place on a college campus and has the best dark/sinister vibes, so I would say yes? I really loved this one, even more than I expected to. Scarlett is the baddest bitch and I LOVED reading about her. It is just so healing to read about women physically conquering evil abusive men (although I do understand that any person of any gender can be an abuser). Do I condone serial killing in real life? No.... But do I celebrate women brutally murdering rapists in the various bits of media I consume? Hell yes!!I imagine what Tyler might say, if he were still capable of forming words. It wasn’t just me—that’s probably where he’d start. He wasn’t the only one who held Megan down on that filthy frat house mattress. We Never Learn: BOKUBEN Anime Gets 2nd Season in October". Anime News Network. June 29, 2019. Archived from the original on June 29, 2019 . Retrieved June 29, 2019. I absolutely devoured this in a couple days (while working, oops). The twists were well-executed in my opinion, as I had an inkling that Scarlett and Carly were in separate timelines/possibly the same person, but Fargo did a great job of trying to throw the reader off. I'm glad I wasn't 100% sure of that twist until the reveal, because it made for a fun time. I also felt it was a bit predictable. I was suprised about Carly being Scarlet, but once that was revealed, i could see where the book was headed. I guessed right when it came to Wes & Jasper.
