Once a limestone quarry where Karol Józef Wojtyła (AKA Pope John Paul II) worked during the second world war to avoid forced labour in Germany, this lagoon just beyond the city centre was created in 1990 when the quarry was flooded. They eat more grilled sausage than hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks, or especially marshmallows (since those are pretty hard to find here) combined. This was once the route Polish kings took as they made their way through the city center (coronations, parades, and receptions for foreign dignitaries also took this route). The selection is so broad, and the staff so skilled in their craft, that I guarentee you will get an excellent experience.

Grab a plate of Pierogi, and a cup of beetroot soup on a cold autumn day — something I’ve come to associate Poland with. Unfortunately- many of our videos for this were created in 2017 using Vine (RIP) so that is why they do not play properly…. Following the swift invasion of Poland at the beginning of World War II, Hitler made Kraków the capital of the Germany General Government due to its prime central location within Europe.

If you really want to impress someone with your knowledge of the city, head into the courtyard where you would find Dzikie Wino, and turn to the left up the stairs.

You can’t be in a rush, and you won’t have much choice as they literally only have a handful of options here. Rynek Glowny, Krakow’s medieval market square, is the classic starting point — and you’ll be back repeatedly to take in all its sights. Two newer mounds commemorate Polish generals, with the most visited being Kopiec Kościuszki, finished in 1823, which offers spectacular views of Wawel Castle, St Mary’s Basilica, the Main Square and Błonia Park. In the morning you can eat a solid breakfast, lunch there will be drinks, and in the evening there will often be a DJ set.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.A lot of it has to do with the fact that we are having such a good time with our friends that we forget to even take pictures!

From the Krakow Airport, there is a convenient airport train that goes to the main station for 14 PLN and runs every half hour. Lonely Planet covers must-see spots but also enables curious travellers to get off beaten paths to understand more of the culture of the places in which they find themselves. For a glimpse into Krakow’s royal past, venture towards the Vistula river to the 14th-century Wawel Castle* for a guided tour through its royal private apartments and state rooms. When the camp was liberated in 1945, there were just 7,000 people there, many of whom were incredibly ill or sick. The Sukiennice in Kraków is considered the most famous cloth hall building and was rebuilt in 1555 in Renaissance style and is one of the city’s most recognizable icons. Its perfectly preserved heart, which has the largest medieval square in Europe, is a riot of Renaissance and baroque architecture, all in harmony. It’s important to realize that the factory is not really about Oskar Schindler or the Enamel Factory. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can marvel over the cavernous chambers, statues, chapels, chandeliers, and cathedrals — all carved out of salt and stone by the miners! The cemeteries are striking examples of the destruction the Nazis caused in these areas, and how the destruction had been repaired since.
