While we wait for real life to cooperate with our vaulting, idealistic daydreams, we have gloriously uplifting, warmhearted and grounded novels like The People on Platform 5 by Clare Pooley ( The Authenticity Project) which is honest about how challenging life can be but which offers the very real hope that maybe the ending doesn’t have to be as disappointing as life often seems to serve up. Magazine Advice Columnist Extraordinaire, Iona Iverson, with her dog Lulu, commutes by train to work daily with the same group of people. By completing your purchase, you agree to Audible's Conditions of Use and authorise Audible to charge your designated card or any other card on file. Not even a little bit; frankly I love the idea that you can find just the right people to help you, that they all end up overcoming any reluctance they have to form bonds with people they’ve only ever cursorily nodded at, and that they form the kind of supportive grouping capable of turning lives around.

somewhere in the hauntingly spooky and hilariously freaky mix and, of course, solving a great mystery which in the case of 1999’s Scooby-Doo! In Clare Pooley's author's letter at the end of this book, she talks about how she came up with these characters - how she decided to disregard the unspoken rules of commuting to create a world in which a large cast of people who take the train together become a community. But there is a way, and The People on Platform 5 shines a heartening light on it, reassuring us that no matter how trenchant a problem might be or how far off a solution might be, that it is there somewhere and we can often find it and live it out if we only have the love and support of people around us. David’s wife is leaving him and Martha is socially isolated after her nude picture was shared around the school.

This book tackles so many interesting themes, all with Clare's trademark humour, wonderful writing, and vibrant, loveable characters - Feel-good fiction at its best. If you are an inveterate reader, the odds are good, better than good actually, that fellow readers or close friends (sometimes, happily, they are both) that at some point they will recommend a book to you. Her blog has had over two million hits and her TEDx talk, Making Sober Less Shameful, has had over 110,000 views. It’s a tough ask in a world more inclined to injustice, vest self-interest and cruelty, accidental or otherwise, but that doesn’t stop us hoping that in amongst all of the hellish loose ends, there might be a definitive moment when all the brass rings fall within our grasp and all the hope springing eternal we’ve employed leads to the sort of happy ending that would make Cinderella swoon.

From the bestselling author of The Authenticity Project comes a brand-new uplifting and feel-good novel that everyone is falling in love with. What I enjoyed about the story is that author Pooley shows how people aren’t what they appear to be. Riding at the same time on the same trains together is, hands-down, the best thing that happens to all of them. Working for a woman's magazine, Iona grew popular over the years due to advice given to those struggling with life.

But when Piers chokes on board, the passengers must put their unspoken rules and preconceived assumptions aside. The writing is fantastic, I really fell in love with Iona and was deeply invested in all of their stories. Woven into the story fabric are themes of loss, romance and redemption which in my opinion failed to save it. I keep picking up books bc they seem fun and interesting and possibly entertaining but turn out to be a big bile of crap!

This book is a quick and easy read about a group of strangers who become friends as they take the same train almost everyday. Iona sees the same group of people each day - ones she makes assumptions about, gives nicknames to, but never ever talks to. Based in the outskirts of London, Iona commutes with Lulu her pug, which draws attention from the other commuters. Pooley pulls no punches when it comes to how uncompromisingly difficult and awful life can be, but she does so in a way that doesn’t feel hopeless and which comes with a sense that it might be possible to find a way through. Iona used to be wild and intrepid, married to the love of her life, tall, beautiful and very black Bea.Our blend of core and behavioral intelligence services provide a comprehensive understanding of consumers by looking at their behaviors, movement patterns, and experiences. The key character of the group who brings Piers (known as Smart-But-Sexist-Surbiton) and others together including Sanjay (Too-Good-To-be-True New Malden), Emmie, Martha, Jake and David together is Iona (Piers christens her Crazy Dog Woman before he really gets to know her), a onetime IT girl of the Eighties and Nineties who, with the love of her life Bea, is a flamboyantly extrovert lesbian who works as a magazine therapist and a woman with a take-no-prisoners approach to bringing people together. The Authenticity Project, Clare’s first novel, was a New York Times bestseller, a BBC Radio 2 book club pick, and winner of the RNA debut novel award.
