Retail therapy is always more expensive than actual therapy. The reason people consume so much is deeply psychological. Andrea: I would still love to work in fashion but I think my emphasis now is more on lifestyle and branding. I did want to go into fashion journalism for a very long time and it’s the career I saw myself doing when I was younger, but progression is important to me and I know that progression in fashion journalism is very difficult. Obviously if an offer came along I’d never turn it down! I actually just got an internship at my favourite commercial gallery though – The Opera Gallery on New Bond Street. They have lots of postmodern and contemporary work like Mauro Corda, Anish Kapoor, Banksy. Foo, Nadia Illyana. " The real Andrea Chong behind @dreachong". Youth.sg. July 25, 2019. The stuff in here is good. It's well-researched and well-intended, with good advice on thinking more sustainably about fashion consumerism. It has good advice for how to think about fashion, how to curb a spending habit, and how to try and make sustainable choices. After doing a wardrobe audit, Cheong then advises you to do a budget review and set out your sustainability goals, before thinking about material composition and quality (the author regularly posts videos of herself assessing the designs of various brands). “All of these things help to inform an individual shopper how to shop best for themselves,” she explains. It would not be a complete review without covering the negative points of the book. There are not many but here are a couple:Andrea first collaborated with Superga in June 2018. The collection sold-out islandwide within 48 hours.

Andrea Chong has lent her support to several social causes in Singapore and overseas. She has worked with the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre and the Singapore Girls’ Home. [37] In December 2018, Andrea Chong and her father volunteered overseas with Operation Hope Foundation where she distributed clothing and school supplies to primary school students at a rural village in Siem Reap, Cambodia. [38] Newsworthy incidents Sexual harassment Facebook post (2017) This empowerment often starts at home, but this isn’t the case for all young people, especially those who have limited role models around them. One fifth (20%) of young people wouldn’t apply for a job if they knew nobody who worked in that career and dated perceptions about ‘traditional’ careers paying the best for entry level jobs are rife – screening out diverse talent from booming sectors like technology before they enter the job market. The publisher says it “teaches us how to shop smarter, save money, help the planet and create a wardrobe that works for us” and “will provide easy solutions and a fresh mindset on how to shop, offering the tools and knowledge to confidently assess whether a garment you want to buy is value for money or a rip off.” In early 2019, Andrea worked with Superga to release three variations of slip-on shoes featuring jute soles. The shoebox for this collection was illustrated by Filipino artist Soleil Ignacio. Andrea: I just started my internship which is three days a week, and I have a 10,000 word dissertation to write, I have so much to handle but it’s going to be worth it. Oddly enough, I get stressed out when I have nothing to do and I feel safer when I know I’m doing too much. I’m quite disciplined and self-motivated. But saying that, I haven’t actually posted that much on my blog recently. Her World Brides and Nadine Chua. " 13 Celebrities Share Their Post-Wedding & Marriage Tips". Hew World. June 17, 2020. Each morning, as we stand in front of our wardrobes, wrapped in a towel or in the comfort of our pyjamas, many of us wonder: “Why don’t I have anything to wear?” Chong, Andrea. “ DC Holiday Collection 2018”. Drea Chong. November 29, 2018. Accessed on 29 February 2019. I really appreciated the amount of research that went into the book, from details about materials and their manufacturing processes to quotes from businesses trying to operate more sustainably within the fashion world. The charts showing perceived quality using her method versus price were enlightening (although some detailed information on how she quantified "quality" would have been nice!). I definitely learned something new reading it, even though I've been following Andrea's content on social media for a while. I also found the book written in a very engaging way, and I definitely enjoy Andrea's sense of humour. Also, the illustrations in the book, all done by Andrea are beautiful and add to the reading experience.

Andrea Chong was a student at Zhonghua Secondary School and Victoria Junior College. She furthered her studies in English Literature at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) but dropped her Literature degree to focus on her budding career as blogger-influencer. Why don’t I have anything to wear?” It’s a question that many of us constantly ask ourselves – no matter the amount of clothes overspilling from our wardrobes – and one that often leads to us buying more, impulse shopping ahead of a big event, before ending up in exactly the same position next time around. But if that really were true, wouldn’t we have stopped spending money and feeling dissatisfied by now? So, what is the real reason we have a chair in the corner of our room heaving with clothes, a full load in the washing machine, and a stuffed wardrobe, yet we still feel as if we have nothing to wear?
