Description

The car owned by the character Charlie Haskell and later driven by Al Roberts is a customized 1941 Lincoln Continental V-12 convertible, a base model of a "Cabriolet" but one that features bolted-on rear wheel-well covers and some exterior components added later from Lincoln's limited 1942 version of the same model. [14] Reportedly, the production budget for Detour was so tight that director Ulmer decided to use this car, his "personal car", for the cross-country crime drama. [14] Censorship [ edit ] Also I’m not the most experienced Layton-sniffer I must confess and I’m not as crazy about it as most other people but there is a difference in quality. Coursen, David (February 1976). "Detour: Closing Down the Open Road". Movietone News. 48 . Retrieved 21 April 2013. Detour is a 1945 American independent [2] film noir directed by Edgar G. Ulmer starring Tom Neal and Ann Savage. The screenplay was adapted by Martin Goldsmith and Martin Mooney (uncredited) from Goldsmith's 1939 novel of the same title, and released by the Producers Releasing Corporation, one of the so-called Poverty Row film studios in mid-20th-century Hollywood. [3] The film, which today is in the public domain and freely available for viewing at various online sources, was restored by the Academy Film Archive in 2018. [4] In April that year, the 4K restoration premiered in Los Angeles at the TCM Festival. [5] A Blu-Ray and DVD was released in March 2019 from the Criterion Collection. [6] In 1992, Detour was selected for the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". [7] [8] Plot [ edit ]

Detour noir has become my go to favorite as of late, I love everything about it. I first bought it this last fall and wore it then, now it’s spring time so it’s getting hot outside and still loving it in the warmer weather. When I first bought it I didn’t care for it much. It was ok, but just ok. After sitting for about a month with a handful of sprays out of it I tried again and it was like a different fragrance all together so it seems it needs to macerate. I find the longevity of it to be very good, I’ll put on a hoodie from the day before or longer and it has such a wonderful day after scent. If you are in the dating game this is the perfect thing to wear if you’re going to “accidentally” leave something at your dates house.Detour Rouge smells a lot lile Versace Eros Flame and Channel Allure Homme Sport. It's got a fresh opening with Bergamot and a lot of Pepperiness; However the pepper note is not as bright as in Eros Flame, neither is Detour Rouge as citrusy as Eros Flame; but the pepperiness in the Rouge is similar to the one in Lattafa Asad, and to a smaller extent like Dior Sauvage Elixir. What I found is that is I spray more than two sprays it becomes too much for me. With two sprays I can smell it throughout the whole day, but it's not too much.

Well… Like many others I blindly bought it. I wanted to get it for ages, but since it was unavailable for a very very long time I sheepishly pressed the buy button to get my bottle of goodness. I’ve never smelt LAYTON so can’t say if it’s a good clone or not but this is an amazing fragrance. If you like 1 Million by Paco Rabanne or Spicebomb by V&R… this is in the same ballpark, does smell a teeny bit chemical or ‘mass’ produced but it’s still a fantastic spicy bomb… It lasts ages and has mega projection so best spray sparingly. Would be a great holiday or Manchester/Newcastle clubbing scent. Bottle isn’t that bad. PdM Layton is my most complimented fragrance I have in my collection. I have a deep connection to it as it is the fragrance I wore on my wedding day and on my sister's wedding, who sadly passed away a few years ago.

But I think I have to add that it still does smell GOOD. Looking at the note pyramid I feel kinda lost however, because I agree with the person a few posts below saying that it smells like apples in the beginning and then sort of becomes more of this crumbly apple cake-smell. This is my second review om this scent. I read a lot of questions on batches. I own batches: 200922021882 (2022-09-20), 171222021882 (2022-12-17), 280123011882 (2023-01-28). Now, down to the scent. The bottle looks like a western saddle horn, which is... interesting? I actually don't mind how it looks, it's a bit unusual and I dig it. The film was released to television in the early 1950s, and it was broadcast in syndicated TV markets until the advent of mass cable systems. TV reviewers casually recommended it in the 1960s and 1970s as a worthwhile "B" movie. Then, by the 1980s, critics began citing Detour increasingly as a prime example of film noir, and revival houses, universities and film festivals began presenting the crime drama in tributes to Edgar G. Ulmer and his work. The director died in 1972, unfortunately before the full revival of Detour and the critical re-evaluation of his career occurred. Tom Neal died the same year as Ulmer, but Ann Savage lived long enough to experience the newfound acclaim. From 1985 until just two years before her death in 2008, she made a series of live appearances at public screenings of the film. [ citation needed]

It’s like a blast in the face with an overly sweet synthetic penetrant smell that makes me freaking nauseous to the point I decide to shower it off and put on another shirt. Don’t get me wrong… There are fragrances I dislike and they will sit on my shelf until eternity but at least I can get through the day whilst wearing them. There are only 2 fragrances up until now that had this effect on me. One of them being Jaguar Gold after spraying too much of it and Detour Noir being the other one without even spraying at all. I feel like the sillage is good but I can't say for sure, the longevity is really good for a cheaper fragrance as well. Probably 6-7h. Overall amazing mass appealing, but unique scent. I definitely recommend it, even blind buy worthy. If you’re thinking about blind buying, I think it’s safe, but I’d still recommend getting a small decant sample of Layton just to make sure you’re into this type of DNA because it is a bit on the sweeter side.Think there are some brand snobs in the comments about being “rough around the edges” .. not really buying it to be honest smell identical and “synthetic” again not buying it .. maybe for ten seconds if that.

I think the person a few posts below me saying that it smells very generic is incorrect. It's not terribly unique, and it does smell quite a bit like a designer-type fragrance, and I feel like many of PdM's frags are actually that. Somewhat designer-smelling but with niche prices. With reshoots out of the question for such a low-budget movie, director Ulmer put storytelling above continuity. For example, he flipped the negative for some of the hitchhiking scenes. This showed the westbound New York City to Los Angeles travel of the character with a right-to-left flow across the screen, though it also made cars seem to be driving on the "wrong" side of the road, with the hitchhiker getting into the car on the driver's side. Can’t say anything on longevity yet. Although the sprays I put on last night, woke up and couldn’t smell a thing not even a skint scent. So can’t comment on being beast mode or even long lasting as of yetI've owned bottles from 2017, 2019 and 2020. Ever since 2020, Layton has gotten worse in sillage and performance and then it was reformulated in 2021 going from 78% volume to 82% making it a shadow of its former self. Since then I have refused to pay a premium for what is now a watered down travesty. a b c Morton, Lisa; Adamson, Kent (2009). Savage Detours: The Life and Work of Ann Savage. Jefferson, North Carolina: McFarland & Co. ISBN 978-0-7864-4353-6. OCLC 423587955. At the moment of writing, I already have the fragrance for a month or two. I try to sniff it every now and then, but I get the same result each and every time. I really don’t like it at all and will probably never will. Kemp, Philip (1987). Wakeman, John (ed.). Word Film Directors, Volume 1: 1890–1945. New York: H. W. Wilson. pp. 1110. ISBN 0-8242-0757-2. I'm not sure about the apple in the opening I can't really identify it. It's balanced, fresh and warm, spicy, and not too sweet.
