When I came to Age of Sigmar a few months ago, one faction really stood out for me: the Ossiarch Bonereapers. Sold as elite warriors forged from stolen bone, the biggest, baddest, and most brutal of Nagash’s unliving forces can be found in the Bonereapers’ ranks. Perhaps somewhat Necron-like in appearance, given their bone-carapace, multi-limbed aesthetic, it is refreshing to find something on the spooky side that isn’t just yet another skeleton army or horde of shambling zombies. Of course, this is on offer – and looks great – in other wings of Nagash’s Grand Alliance Death, but with the Ossiarch Bonereapers themselves, it feels as if some real thought and originality has gone into the direction of the faction. A lot of these same schemes and colors can be used across the rest of the Saurus and even the Skinks. I plan on doing a slightly lighter version of this for my own Skinks. It all really depends on what look you want to get - I prefer high contrast with a pretty dark starting point for the recesses, which I don’t feel is what the GW method gets you with Seraphim Sepia. And after his necromantic painting workshop, we’ve also got the latest rules updates, designers’ commentaries, and Rivals, Nemesis, and Relic rules for the new season.

The silver and gold are then given an all-over wash of Agrax Earthshade thinned with water. If you feel certain areas need to be darker, wait for this to dry completely, then add a second layer in only those areas. Step 5(Left)- This layer is a mix of Hyek Yellow and Dead White. Hit a smaller portion of the Screaming Skull to build up a brighter highlight.http://www.ttfxmedia.com/vallejo/cgi-bin/_modelis_info.asp?p1=ing&p2=modelcolor&p3=1#modelcolorinfo I knew going in I had a very very specific aesthetic in mind for my ghouls. I wanted to make them almost ethereal, dirty pale creatures that looked like they had not seen sun for years. The flesh would be the focus for me, but I also wanted to offset it with some sense of the kind of materials and equipment these filthy creatures would have access to, so corrosion and dirt would be the name of the game. I also wanted to play around with some technical effects, and so these have a really grizzly, bloodstained look to them.

Reusing the wash color I created, I slowly added in some Wraithbone to bring the tone up to a brighter fleshy purple and applied multiple line layers to the tentacles. http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/media/e588d28183cec31ffd6dcee6d3718fc3.cms/equivalencias-rev05.pdf Nightmare Before Christmas is a classic kid’s film where the main character is a skeleton who kidnaps Santa Claus and then scares the shit out of children all over the world.

Get Weird With It

For bone details, I basecoated Ushabti Bone, washed with 1:2 contrast medium to Skeleton Horde, and highlighted again with Ushabti Bone. I wanted to keep a specific tone and brightness for the bone – think of it as “Harryhausen skeletons from Seventh Voyage of Sinbad played on my childhood tube TV”. Steel details get Vallejo Metal Color Gunmetal, washed with Nuln Oil and drybrushed / highlighted with Stormhost silver. On weapon blades, I glazed Nuln Oil a few more times (avoiding the edges) to get the dark metal center I was looking for. The 2007 film adaptation of Stephen King’s The Mist, directed by Frank Darabont, is another story in this tradition. Although it at times struggles with its smaller budget, it’s still a pretty good movie with some solid acting.

Ok, so the list of ghoul-related works is going to feature a few things that are technically listed as vampires or zombies but really are ghouls. It’s a harder list to assemble, so bear with me on this. When one thinks upon Lovecraftian horrors, one inevitably thinks of tentacled otherworldly creatures. While Lovecraft did not himself create the Cthonian–Brian Lumley created them some 30+ years after his death–these rather loathsome things have been a staple of eldritch horror stories and games for a long time. They’re giant, horribly dangerous, and make for a perfect nameless enemy. Finally, the Necropolis Stalker is an interesting model because while huge, it actually doesn’t have a lot of detail, and the swords draw the eye quite a bit at the same level as the face it has. For that reason I wanted to make the guards stand out a bit, and applied some Seraphim Sepia to them to give the bone on the handles a more aged look, as if they were crafted from something different than the Bonereapers themselves. Otherwise, he follows the same scheme as the others, layering various levels of the colors into one another over successive coats. Ivya roams the realms alone, hunting hulking behemoths with the help of her beloved woodsman’s axe and her loyal swarm of needle-fanged bats. Battletome: Soulblight Gravelords
