Please note that during particularly busy periods, it may take a little longer to receive your delivery and our carrier may attempt to deliver to you on a Saturday. This propagator is made up of 4 individual seed trays, as well as a heated base. While it requires a little more space than other units I’ve recommended, measuring 39 x 25 x 16cm, it still fits easily on most average window sills. Each tray measures 8.5 x 15.5cm, while the height of the lid is 8cm. This allows seedlings to grow tall and develop strong roots before replanting. If there are separate trays, or there’s enough space to use your own pots, you can have a lot more flexibility on using different compost types and planting different seeds. Everything I planted germinated, many still flowering happily as we go into October. It’s cheap and looks as cool as you’ll get. Bam, full marks for this propagator. Even as I write I’m excited about using it again in March 2016. This compact electric propagator is an ideal plant and flower nursery solution for your windowsill. It features seven mini propagators which allow you to grow a wide variety of different plants in just one unit for great convenience. The non-thermostatically controlled 13-watt carbon fibre heated base unit provides the ideal conditions for growth by evenly distributing heat and raising the ambient compost temperature by up to 8°C. A great way to ensure perfect light conditions for successful propagation while protecting your seedlings from draught and cold. Features and Benefits

Thanks to the seven separate cells, you can plant different types of seeds in each one if you wish, and each cell has its own vent to control the temperature according to the different plant. The Sahara Heating Mat from BioGreen is a really useful piece of kit. It is ideal for those with a greenhouse bench to heat – it is probably the most cost-effective way of creating a temporary heated bench in a greenhouse. The 40 x 75cm mat was tested (the smallest model), but there are many different sizes available. The mat offers even heat distribution across a bench, and works best when placed on insulating material, such as polystyrene. It comes with a soil sensor and thermostat, and you can set the temperature up to 40°C. It’s perfect for overwintering tender specimens, germinating seeds and taking cuttings. The aluminium mat is spray waterproof, and can be rolled to store. My biggest criticism about this mat is that the instructions are so complicated. If you are overwintering or propagating plants in an unheated greenhouse, then this mat will allow you to just heat one area, which will be far cheaper. Not to be mistaken for the Garland Super7 Heated Propagator we reviewed previously, this Super 7 Self-watering Propagator is for those who would rather automatically provide water than heat to their germinating seeds and subsequent seedlings. This is an unheated propagator so do make sure that your windowsill or wherever you place it is warm enough to encourage the seeds to start growing. Suttons strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3. Having the ability to control and manage your plant’s growth environment is empowering. Whether you want to grow chillies, tomatoes or any herbs, you can rely on your propagator to provide a secure environment.

If like me, you live in a very small flat with perhaps only one window adequate for growing plants from seed, the Super 7 is perfect. It’s 76cm x 19 cm deep and feels compact. Doesn’t have adjustable heat, but for indoor seed sowing that doesn’t matter for anyone except specialist growers. Lagurus ovatus “Bunny Tails” If you really need a self-watering propagator or your budget doesn’t stretch to a heated unit, consider an alternate form of heat and light. In the UK, if you don’t have a sunny and warm enough windowsill to germinate your seeds then you may need to consider a grow lamp, perhaps one on a timer so you don’t have to remember to put it on and off on the right schedule. To allow adequate space for seedlings to establish, the best propagator will be around 15 – 20 cm in height . Ideally, you want to be looking for a propagator with a wattage of around 13 – 22 W . This will provide sufficient heat for seedlings without being too costly to run. Optimal soil temperature for germination is 10 – 15°C so the propagator needs enough power to maintain this.

Single temperature propagator maintains the temperature at a constant 19°C for an optimal environment for your seedlings. You can override this by opening the vent on top of each propagator to change its interior temperature and to affect the humidity. Effectively, each propagator can have its own environment to suit whatever variety of seeds you are growing.Set the temperature that is required to promote plant growth if your heated propagator has a thermostat. Some larger seeds in mid winter, Ricinus communis ‘Carmenchita’ and different cultivars of Lathyrus odoratus (sweet pea) I put into square 5cm pots instead of the trays and it worked just fine, fitting nicely.

The base tray holds seven individual seed trays so you can sow seven different varieties of seed if you wish. There’s only one open heating space, so you’re not restricted by smaller ‘cells’. The only real downside to this is that seeds can’t be individually ventilated. The plastic lid has two vents, which can be opened or closed to help regulate the temperature inside the propagator. The design itself is very simple. This unit consists of a heated tray with a ventilated plastic lid – you supply your own trays/pots, but it can fit 2 x 24-pot plant trays, so that gives you a good idea of its size in practical terms. Avoid lifting the lid unnecessarily as this will disturb the temperature and humidity levels inside the propagator. For example, if you run a propagator of 100 W for an hour, at this rate, it will cost you 1.4p for that hour. A propagator of 50 W will cost 0.7p for an hour. And a propagator of 22 W will cost you 0.3 p per hour.

Often regarded as the holy grail of propagators, these are heated propagators that come with a thermostat that you can set to within a range of temperatures. Set this to your required temperature, usually between5°C and 30°C, so the environment is perfect for the type of seed you’re growing. These work by regulating the temperature to within 1°C. Self-watering You can also select a convenient day to receive your delivery by choosing a named day delivery (delivery on working days only). If you wish to return your item to Robert Dyas, you can do so by one of the following methods: 1. Request a Collection via Robert Dyas Customer ServicesMeasuring just 18.5cm wide, this propagator easily fits onto the average window ledge. The 76cm length means you can still fit ample seeds into this unit. The roof is high enough to allow seedlings to grow around 5cm, and the trays are also sufficiently deep to offer enough space for roots to fully develop. As a result, when it comes to planting seedlings out, they are already well established. With seven individually-vented cells and a reasonable price tag, this Garland Super7 Electric Heated Windowsill Propagator offers good value for money. Despite having seven cells, it has a compact design enabling you to grow germinate multiple seed varieties in one go. Very handy! Height extensions have their own side vents for further control of the interior climate as your plants get bigger and taller.
