Calonita, Jen (August 31, 2023). Suddenly Super: A Twisted Tale. Disney-Hyperion. ISBN 9781368063807. The 13th installment in the New York Times best-selling series asks: What if Tiana made a deal that changed everything?

In “Almost There,” Tiana has the life she’s always wished for — her previously-deceased father is alive and well, and they have finally opened a restaurant together. But this life came at a hefty price; she had to make a deal with Dr. Facilier. When Tiana and Dr. Facilier confront each other, Tiana threatens to destroy his precious talisman. Similar to a dream sequence in the movie, he presents a life to her where all her dreams have come true; all she has to do is add a drop of a potion — provided by his friends on the other side — into her signature gumbo dish at her future restaurant and the life is hers. So instead of turning Dr. Facilier away, Tiana has no choice but to accept the deal after he threatens those she loves. Besides her, we got see everyone from the movie - which YAY! I loved seeing Hades being in love because it was both adorable and hilarious at the same time. Then there's Phil and him being great with a baby was all kinds of cute. I can't forget Pegasus one bit either. I enjoyed him and Meg getting closer because of how he acted when she was with Hercules. Also, the quests! Ah - so insane! In theory, this book starts as Tiana has Dr. Facilier's amulet and before she smashes it he gives her a deal she can't ignore. Unfortunately the details of the film were ignored to "progress" the story. The side plot with Naveen is the only bright light in book. The story is all over the place. Tiana has zero of the charm, intelligence or personality that Anika Noni Rose delivered as the film counterpart. She is rude to her friends and her mother. She falls for ridiculous lies that she never should have even considered.c) Hercules is his father's doormat. He is capable of taking down the Titans and he couldn't even have a proper spare with Zeus- really. Braswell, Liz (April 5, 2016). Once Upon a Dream: A Twisted Tale. Disney-Hyperion. ISBN 9781484707302. Joining her for support is Philoctetes, better known as Phil. The coach to the Gods. If anyone can help Meg work through her quest, it's him. And let's not forget Pegasus!! He's along as well, to give Meg a helping hoof. I LOVE THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, I LOVE TIANA AND CHARLOTTE AND THE PRINCE AND BASICALLY EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER EVEN EVANGELINE.

I loved the fact that she stayed close to the Disney story. The characters felt the same as they did in the Hercules movie, even though the story was completely different. I also loved following Meg as our protagonist. I always thought her potential was fully exploited in Hercules, so I was glad to read a story from her perspective. There were some stand-out moments throughout this quest. Times where Meg could have (maybe should have) given up and chosen to remain human. There were times where she made mistakes that were oh-so relatable due to her swirling thoughts and unsure feelings. I highlighted so many quotes in my Kindle as I read and even felt as though Megara became somewhat like a friend. This surprised me greatly since I was going into this assuming it would have an almost middle-grade feel to it, as some of the other Twisted Tales had. I closed the book feeling as though I had actually learned something from it. I shouldn't have raised my expectations since I generally tend to be bored with Greek Mythology but Hercules is one of my favorite Disney movies so I was really excited for the twisted tale New Orleans • Bayou of New Orleans • Mama Odie's Tree • Tiana's Palace • Maldonia • Dr. Facilier's Voodoo Emporium • Duke's Café • Tiana's Home Well, that was disappointing. I had high hopes for this one for two reasons. First, I adore the movie Hercules. Second, I read the Mulan retelling from this series written by Elizabeth Lim and loved it. I hoped this one would be as good. Buuuuuuut... it's not.Fortunately for me, this book did not disappoint! In fact, it did justice to the classic story, and that’s coming from me, the super fan! Calonita, Jen (April 6, 2021). Go the Distance: A Twisted Tale. Disney-Hyperion. ISBN 9781368063807. Wow, what a fun book to read! Such a fast pace and fun adventure book and I think this will get u out of a slump if u are feeling a reading slump....

d) WTF happened with HADES? (and there was hardly anything at all of Panic and Pain. Really Disney, Hades was much better in Descendants 3. Facilier certainly doesn’t want to have to pay Tiana’s debt to his friends so he tries to bully her into signing the deal. Thankfully Tiana is smarter than that and refuses to sign. The Shadow Man becomes more desperate and makes threats against Tiana and her family but she still stands firm. But after a while, her hometown grows increasingly eerie, with new threats cropping up from unlikely places. Navigating through this strange new New Orleans, Tiana must work alongside Naveen and Charlotte to set things right―or risk losing everything she holds dear.Unfortunately, sometimes when things sound too good to be true, they are. As Tiana finds herself navigating her new reality, she also begins to notice strange occurrences popping up everywhere around her.

I noticed a common theme in the later books that they disregard the original material (the movie) to take so much liberty with the story ..like this book ..it's like the movie didn't even happen and we didn't even meet Mama Ode again :'(
