Dr Dobson should probably instead have concluded this great story of adventure by commenting on the tragedy of survival against the odds but without true eternal hope, instead of trying to turn this into a Christian book/turn these into Christian men when they don't seem to have been. Very soon into this undertaking their ship, the Endurance, became trapped in the ice in the Weddell Sea and then sank.

When I had finished reading the book, I went online to find the pictures were taken on the voyage and survived. I must have burned 1000 calories reading this one; my legs were jiggling like crazy, my fingernails were bitten to the quick, my heart was just a’going. Considering how bad their situation was to begin with, this may be hard to believe, but seriously, they go from months of unending misery on the ice to living in conditions that make their ice camp seem relatively comfortable in retrospect. They take the dogs off the ship to haul supplies, but eventually, they have no choice but to kill them. It's shorter, but it's a more cinematic presentation and they recreated a lot of the ocean and hiking sequences, showing what it was must have really looked like to be sitting in a lifeboat during a hurricane, or trying to hike up a frozen mountain range in leather shoes and threadbare clothes while you're exhausted, frostbitten, and half-starved. Luckily, this was not the case, so here's your review: it's an amazing book, kept me riveted through many a sleepless night, and you should all give it a go. These things were mentioned as a casual, passing comment and all I could think was “they had to suffer through those for months with no medical attention and only making them worse.

i expect this situation is on account of where i live and all, but surely there has to be one polar-explorer type wandering through queens, looking for a lady to tell his tales of adventure to! Shackleton and five others took the strongest boat into the dreaded Drake Passage in a desperate bid to find people and resources. He achieved a certain amount of acclaim when South, his own account of the Expedition, was published, but his legend seemed to die with him when he suffered a fatal heart attack on another trip south in 1922. The ship Endurance sailed from Argentina on October 26, 1914, for the remote sub-Antarctic island of South Georgia.

I dreamt that I was stranded on an iceberg, and was relieved to wake up in a bed, in a house, on land, in a warm climate and with food readily available. Shortly thereafter, Shackleton and 5 others sailed one of the boats 800+ more miles through the terrifying Drake Passage to South Georgia Island. In the end this is one of the most harrowing stories of survival I've ever read it's just incredible, crazy good. I would marvel at the amount of wildlife they encountered, the inexplicably hot and icy summers of the land, the joys of hard work that effectively stops you from spiraling into deep depression, and of course Shackleton's increasingly crazy yet effective survival plans being played out.
