Description

The only truth Evangeline has to hold on to now is that Jack can’t be trusted with whatever lies behind that door. This glass-half-full mentality teeters on naïveté and lands her in some perilous situations, owing to her willful blindness to the faults and ill-intentions of others.

Am sobbing over that ending, it is like my heart has been shredded 😭💔 I didn't know this would happen to both of my favourite characters. They are wild, feral, reckless things that need to be constantly chased, or they will certainly run away. There was literally never a dull moment in this book, it was either really tense or funny, and I L O V E D it.He spots her, introduces her to his mother, and charmingly kisses her hand in gratitude – before he closes his fangs around her throat.

He pulls her into his bed instead, murmuring she won’t remember anyway, and melts away her resistance with words and his touch. winning at love was less about succeeding in a battle and more about continuing to fight, to choose the person you loved as the one you were willing to die for, over and over. Evangeline asks about it when he walks in, but he denies being part of the three, and the book turns blank. There were SO many different scenes where I thought they were going to kiss, and they made me absolutely insane. But when a new terrifying curse is revealed, Evangeline finds herself entering into a tenuous partnership with the Prince of Hearts again.

It’s all so confusing to me and all my emotions are so conflicted but I think it’s very important that Jacks was actually keeping Evangeline alive all those times because he LOVES HER. Stephanie Garber’s storytelling is truly magical and this fairytale world and her characters are so. Evangeline didn’t want love that made sense, she wanted love that made her feel, love that made her want to fight and hope for the impossible. He is not sorry, and Evangeline once again resolves not to be fooled by him again, so when he offers to wake and save Apollo if Evangeline opens the Valor Arch for him, she refuses to enter into a new bargain with him. The book is written entirely from Evangeline’s point of view in the first person, which has the effect of making you feel as though it is you, not Evangeline, who is experiencing everything.

I feel like this could definitely be and opening for a third book because I just feel like after everything Jacks has been through, and how much is readers love him.Her prose is engaging, easy to understand, and every bit as whimsical and magical as the Magnificent North.
