From building the character, standing him at the Taxi rank, hailing a Cab, popping him inside and driving off, it’s great fun even for a thirty-something AFOL ( Adult Fan of LEGO) like me!

For those of you that hate vehicles in modular sets (there have only been three so I don't understand what all the whinging is about), I would like to know how this taxi would have 'completely ruined' Boutique Hotel, had it been included? You start of by constructing a portion of the pavement (sidewalk) which all sits upon 4×8 Tan plate. Covering the plate in matching dark grey tiles it will happily sit next to other LEGO Modulars, although it is a smidgen higher I don’t think that necessarily matters much.

Overall the LEGO Vintage Taxi (40532) GWP set is great and well worth getting, although the spend limit needed is, in my opinion, way to steep and so makes the decision to grab a very difficult decision to make. At first I also thought this looked really underwhelming, but on closer inspection it's actually a rather nice and clever build, with the exclusive printed parts making it highly desirable. Either that or he’s using this as a front to deliver doughnuts to high-flying guests staying at the Boutique Hotel.

There's not much to find fault with other than that it's a shame that it does not come with both driver and passenger minifigs. I find the inconsistency between modular cars very strange. The diner gets one where two people could sit side by side, but then the garage gets something like you’d find in City. I know this GWP isn’t a defacto modular set, but it’s a pity it isn’t wider. I’d always hoped we might get something like ER0L’s fantastic designs to buy one day. (I wish I could figure out how to reverse engineer some of those. Alas…)" Well, a passenger, anyway. There’s only room here for the driver and a single rider. There is, however, space in the trunk for some luggage. Too bad our driver has already claimed that spot for his donut stash. In my review of the minifigures from 76269 Avengers Tower, I mentioned the need for civilians requiring rescue. An unnamed Taxi Driver fulfils the role nicely and features some interesting pieces, as this torso has only appeared once before, in 76405 Hogwarts Express - Collectors' Edition. Moreover, the sand blue jeans look good and the minifigures comes with a coffee cup, as well as a printed slice of pizza, returning from 10312 Jazz Club.

However, only one minifig? That's a plain rip off. The vintage car, sailboat etc. all had 2 minifigs. A driver and a passenger is not that much to ask. Especially given the price needed to get this. The vehicle looks sleek, streamlined and luxurious: in fact, far too good for use as a taxi: it's more like a limousine. The prominent curved wheel arches front and rear give it the appearance of a typical luxury 1930s car like a Rolls Royce Phantom or Citroen Traction AvantThe inclusion of the flat cap is very nice and just adds to the characters look, along with the suitcase, that of course has a donut inside. Including a Minifigure in these GWP sets is always a nice touch and one we’ve come to appreciate, as not only are most exclusive, or at least exclusive combinations of parts, to the set and pull in collectors, but they’re an important part of the whole play experience When this set was revealed, I found the taxi decidedly underwhelming, based primarily on its seemingly awkward shape. However, this model is more attractive than I expected and I think the first image was unflattering. The proportions of the vehicle are realistic and the curvature of its bonnet and windscreen looks superb, which is something LEGO cars often struggle with. Not if the passenger has any luggage (especially not the new air-friendly rolling suitcase). Driver’s got to have someplace to stash the giant lunch he’s carrying.
